Presentation & Book Signing at European Cycle Sports with Sam Manicom https://www.bmwmoa.org/events/eventdetails.aspx?id=1832896 https://www.bmwmoa.org/events/eventdetails.aspx?id=1832896 Join us at European Cycle Sports on Saturday, May 11th for a Presentation Evening with round the world rider and author Sam Manicom. This is his second time with us and this time he’s going to be sharing tales of the road from the Asia section of his 8-year round-the-world journey – Australia to Eastern Europe.

Sam will have you laughing at some of the shenanigans that overlanders get up to, to make their journey work. He'll be sharing tales of lateral thinking, on the spot quick thinking, pure luck and the kindness of strangers. There will also be a few decidedly bizarre tales which will have you raising your eyebrows!

Along the road he’s going to take you working in the fields of Australia, into a dash of romance, the moment when he was so injured that he was told he’d never ride a motorcycle again, and how his life was saved by a good Samaritan in jaded clothes.

He’ll be talking about the challenges of rescuing his bike from a port in India and will be balancing the demands of the road with stories of magnificent scenery, enticing foods and the constant and surprising cultural changes. All of these tales are from the back of his trusty R 80 GS.

This will be an evening of adventures, challenges, beauty and laughter. We look forward to seeing you! We are pleased to say that Sam will also be book signing his 5 books.

For more information, visit European Cycle Sports.

49er Rally https://www.bmwmoa.org/events/eventdetails.aspx?id=1831013 https://www.bmwmoa.org/events/eventdetails.aspx?id=1831013 The NorCal BMW Club has a long-standing tradition of hosting the 49er Rally over Memorial Weekend with the Mariposa Fairgrounds serving as its base camp. The 49er Rally is an annual event that brings together over 500 motorcycle enthusiasts from Northern California and beyond. The Mariposa Fairgrounds, located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, at the entrance to Yosemite National Park, provides a picturesque setting for this gathering.

Now in its 52nd year, the 49er Rally offers a multitude of motorcycle related activities: On- and Offroad riding clinics, Seminars, guided and unguided road of adventure rides, poker runs, and the always popular English Trials and GS Challenge competitions.

Great food will be available and the Beer Garden is always a good place to hang out after the day's riding is done. And enjoy great bands playing in the evenings.

For more info and registration, watch the 49er Rally Page.

The airheads will be present at “Airhead Central,” always willing to talk about historic BMW models and willing to share wrenching advice.

Once again, our sponsors provided great door and raffle prizes, including a voucher for a two day class at the BMW Performance Center in South Carolina.

A large number of vendors will be available to demonstrate, explain and offer their wares.

The fairgrounds prove ample space for camping, RV’s and various activities, creating a welcoming environment for participants. The scenic surroundings and the proximity to some of Northern California's best riding routes contribute to the overall appeal of the event.

The NorCal BMW Club’s 49er Rally holds a special place as one of the kickoff events for the motorcycle rallies on the west Coast. The annual gathering not only marks the beginning of the riding season but also sets the tone for a series of rallies and events that follow throughout the year.

We look forward to you joining us.

Grandjean is at the gateway to the Sawtooth Wilderness Area with incredible riding destinations in every direction. There are some backwoods amenities – the site is located at the Sawtooth Lodge which features a heated pool, shower houses, several bathrooms with flush toilets, two meadows for camping, and natural hot springs within walking distance. They also have a great lunch menu, beer, wine, cabins and RV parking (separate fee required). The road in (off Hwy 21) is six miles of hard-packed dirt road and can be ridden by all BMWs.

Thursday we grill burgers, Friday dinner is large rib-eye steaks, corn on the cob and baked potatoes. Saturday dinner is grilled beer brats with sauerkraut. Gourmet coffee, bagels, fruit, and yogurt are served each morning. The lodge also has alternative food available, such as fabulous milkshakes and burgers.

Because of the remote location, attendance is by pre-registration only, here below. Sorry, we cannot handle ride-ins. Registration closes 20 July, 2024. We close at that time to make commitments to food and supplies. The rally will be limited to first 100 pre-registered guests. 49th Annual Falling Leaf Rally https://www.bmwmoa.org/events/eventdetails.aspx?id=1848560 https://www.bmwmoa.org/events/eventdetails.aspx?id=1848560 The Falling Leaf Rally is hosted by the Gateway Riders BMW Motorcycle Club, St. Louis, Missouri (MOA Charter Club #22). The Gateway Riders have sponsored the Falling Leaf Rally since 1976. We traditionally hold the rally the second full weekend in October. Join us in 2024! Our 49th Falling Leaf Rally is close to Steelville, Missouri at a local river resort adjacent to the Meramec River.

You will be able to register online for the 49th Annual Falling Leaf Rally when information is available starting April 8, 2024. (Visit the website at Gateway Riders Falling Leaf Rally.) Registration online through October 4, 2024, is $40 per person; in-person registration at the gate will be $50. Children under 12 are free. You can add meals to your registration fee once the online portal is open.

We will have multiple lodging options including tent camping sites, RV camping (full hookups), RVs for rent, cabins, and communal group bunkhouses with comfortable bunk beds, hot showers, and flush toilets. An onsite country store has snacks, drinks, and sundry items for sale.

Camping space is plentiful. Plan for low temperatures in the evening. An enclosed meeting hall will be open during the rally and is heated or air conditioned. Hot shower locations are available at the campground with heated bathrooms and flush toilets.

If you're not into camping, you don't have to stay in a hotel. Make your selection directly with the campground. Some cabins have living rooms, full facility kitchens, stove, microwave, coffee maker, heat & A/C, and bathrooms. Bungalows are limited to a bed, tables, and electrical outlets. Round up your riding buddies and share a communal bunkhouse during the rally for inexpensive lodging. There is also a car, truck, trailer and RV area.

While any road with an alphabet letter around the rally site is likely scenic and twisty, we ask that you check the MODOT Traveler Information Map for the latest construction updates or closures.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mexico. If there is road-worthy riding in this country, we’ve probably done it. When it comes to motorcycle touring in Mexico, no one does it better than MotoDiscovery and no better transport than BMW.
  • Oaxaca (Wua-ha-ka) is located about 300 miles southeast of Mexico City and possesses all of the colorful character, pre-Columbian archeology, native indigenous traditions and Spanish Colonial heritage that makes Mexico such a fascinating travel destination. It is the capital city of the state that bears the same name and is famous for its rich and unique cuisine as well-known chef and restaurateur, Rick Bayless will testify. It is also known for one of the most interesting traditions, celebrated by native Zapotec tribes, Día de los Muertos…Day of the Dead.
  • The MOA Oaxaca Day of the Dead tour originates with your arrival by air into Mexico City. Many excellent international flight options are available. You will be met and transferred to the Valley of Tepoztlan. Aztec folklore venerates this scenic area as the birthplace of Quetzalcoatl; the prominent feathered serpent god of Mexico’s native inhabitants. The ride then takes advantage of great secondary roads to the city of Tilapa. Let’s hope the Aztec gods are pleased as we’ll be traveling in the shadows of the frequently rowdy volcano of Popocatépetl. At nearly 17,700 ft.,“Popo ” is a prominent snow capped feature of the landscape. Ending a superb day of riding, we’ll overnight in the authentic and luxurious Hacienda Rijo with a history dating back to 1684 during the Spanish colonial period.
  • Taking the most direct route to Oaxaca City, we’ll be conveniently located within walking distance of the centro and main plaza. Oaxaca has earned a worldwide reputation for its cuisine rooted in native dishes passed along and often fused with modern culinary creations. It is also home to mezcal, the high octane nectar of the gods. Cemeteries come alive with the setting sun, indigenous natives gather around the graves of loved ones and give offerings to the spirits. So much to do and see! We’ll be enjoying Oaxaca for three nights.
  • Reuniting with the motorcycles, we’ll ride what is arguably one of the finest riding roads in Mexico. Descending from the heights of the Sierra Madres to the Pacific Coast, we’ll enjoy two nights right at the ocean’s edge. Quinta Bella Huatulco.
The Oaxaca Day of the Dead motorcycle road tour is on paved roads throughout. Exciting culture and history, incredible dining, superb accommodations, idyllic beaches and,of course, excellent riding. Our service is genuine and legendary. This will be a holiday to remember.
  • A selection of the popular BMW GS model motorcycles are available. You will want to share this one with your friends. Advance bookings are required due to the demand for accommodations in Oaxaca during the Day of the Dead.
