MOA announces new dates for National Rally

Monday, April 20, 2020   (46 Comments)

Wes Fitzer, President of the BMW Motorcycle Owners of America, and Ted Moyer, the MOA's Executive Director, today announced 24-27 June 2021 as the new dates for the MOA's annual National Rally.

"I think everyone knows it will be difficult, if not impossible to assemble 5,000 people this summer without putting them at risk under the current conditions," Moyer said. "The National will be held at the same location [ExpoPark, Great Falls, Montana] and on the same weekend in June, just one year later than what we originally planned."

Fitzer added, "After speaking with officials in Great Falls and representatives from the ExpoPark, this is the best decision based on the information we have today. It's a tough call, but without a crystal ball, one year from now gives us the best opportunity to offer our members a healthy and safe rally environment where they can join their friends and feel comfortable that it's OK to have a good time."

Great Falls Rally Chairs Corey and Becky Smith will retain their roles and have pledged to continue working hard to make the Rally in Great Falls as smooth and enjoyable as possible for all who attend.

The MOA also announced options to facilitate transferring or refunding existing rally registrations as of the date of this announcement, as follows:

  • If you are already registered for Great Falls, your registration will automatically carry over to the new dates. Everything controlled by the MOA is included - rally registration, RV reservation, t-shirt purchase, etc. If you made alternate lodging reservations, you'll need to manage those yourself.
  • If you prefer a refund, you have two options:
    • If you plan to attend any other MOA event in 2020-22, we will issue you a voucher for your rally registration cost PLUS 20%. If your rally registration was $100, your voucher will be worth $120 towards any MOA event through the end of 2022.
    • If you have no plans to attend any MOA event in 2020-22, we will issue you a refund of your registration cost.
  • All refunds should be submitted using the Refund Request Form available at rally.bmwmoa.org. Simply submit your refund request through the form and your request will be processed as quickly as possible.

"We want members to know we're thinking about them and trying to work through the situation. These are our friends and we're most concerned for their health and well-being," Fitzer added. "The virus has certainly changed things for us this year, but I'm proud we've been able to respond and think a little differently by shifting some events, creating a new destination event and placing members first in our refund policies and the options they have for the future."

I've been anticipating this announcement for some time. As a long time and Lifetime MOA member, long time Rally vendor and a seminar presenter over the past several years plus an enthusiast attendee of most Nationals since around 1978 I feel this was a very smart decision. As a business owner (Bob's BMW) it is impossible to not know recognize the major issues surrounding everyone's health in our country right now. While getting out for a good ride these days, something I do near daily which brings a level of stress management and mental health to my life I suspect the other 95% of the population could actually use that too. But at the same time we don't need to put other communities health at risk by entering their safe places even a few months from now when the situation will not be fully known. Be safe and toget her we will #rideitout. See you in Montana next year.

I want to thank the MOA for making this very hard decision also. I agree this is right one with all that is going on. Will our hotel reservations in Great Falls, that were made through the MOA, be rescheduled in the same manner?

I'm very pleased that Great Falls worked WITH the MOA, to allow this decision. There are a lot of our members now at ease for summer 2020. And many now making plans for the September 25-27 MOA Motorrad Fest at Lebanon TN. For ride when safe, we must do!

A big thank you to the Board and the Executive Director for making the best possible decision under the circumstances! The safety of our members naturally comes first, but consideration also must be made for the financial condition of the club, and with this decision you have ensured the first and supported the second. Thank you!

Postponement of the rally is a good decision. The plan to carry over 2020 pre-registration to 2021 shows prudence. Hopefully the BMW community is closely following CDC, state and local advisories to help us move past COVID-19. Bart Ruud #158246.

We all appreciate the boards hard work on this and or any other rally/event. As summer nears, we all ponder, "who would've thought?" So instead of a couple months ,,, lets see everyone in 14 months . continue to be safe , we will all rejoice soon. Pete Pleban , Wyoming USA
