The 1977 BMW R 100 RS. Built by BMW. Expertly restored by BMW MOA member John “Dutch” Lammers. Hand signed by Hans Muth. It is completely vintage, and it could be yours!

Often referred to as the "first edition" of the RS, the Foundation's latest treasure has been expertly restored to serve as the grand prize in the Spring 2020 Completely Vintage raffle to raise funds for rider safety, education and training.

Tickets for the Completely Vintage R100RS are on sale through April 5th. The winner of this beautiful, one-of-a-kind restoration will be announced April 25, 2020 at the BMW MOA Fontana Weekend Getaway. You do not have to be present to win.

The restoration of this first edition R 100 RS is a labor of love completed by BMW MOA member Dutch Lammers. Detailed in the February issue of the BMW Owners News, the restoration is the result of six months of hard work and dedication to detail. The R 100 RS represents a true 100-point restoration that any BMW enthusiast would be proud to own.

Among some of the unique features of the bike are a pair of blue anodized front brake calipers and the silver anodized spoke rims, only used on the ’77 model.

The glass headlight cover on the fairing uses the now unavailable original fastening system attaching the headlight to the fairing from the inside and showing no hardware on the outside, as later models did. The bike features solid lowers surrounding the motor and mirror stems painted in the original body color, just as the bike originally had.

The bike also uses a matte paint finish. Though initially disliked by BMW purists at the time who would often polish the paint to a gloss shine, a matte finish was how BMW delivered the motorcycle. Finally, the bike was beautifully and perfectly pinstriped by Mark Weld. And, maybe most unique to the Completely Vintage R 100 RS, the gas tank is hand signed by the original designer of the R 100 RS, Hans Muth.

For a chance to win the Completely Vintage R 100 RS, MOA members can purchase raffle tickets online for $25 each or five for $100. Proceeds from the Completely Vintage raffle support the BMW MOA Foundation's efforts to improve rider safety, education and training. The winner will have the option of choosing either the dual seat or the 3/4 seat, as shown in the photos. Good luck!

Mr. Ashe, I believe a dual seat or a sport seat was offered in 1977 when it was sold but two seats were not included; the buyer had the choice. It appears this RS comes with a solo seat. There is room for a real, real close friend.

Hi, as I prepare for impending delivery of this beautiful bike - quick question: How does the passenger fit? Is there a separate seat with a flat rear cushion?

Under Contest Rules #3 says ticket numbers will be returned via email. I have not received any at the time. I did receive a confirmation that I purchased but that is all. What's UP?

@Scott Roe, The bike will be available for pick up in Greer, SC. The winner is responsible for the cost of any transpiration, but we have always helped facilitate that process, including booking shippers or making the bike available for pick up.

I presume one is responsible for picking the bike up in the Ontario, Canada area and getting it home?

Hello all. Just wanted to say that I appreciate the comments on the RS. In regards to the color, I would certainly agree that the bike as seen in the article is too blue. Rest assured that in reality the color is much more correct. Roger's comment was right on the money. The photographer used blue and purple back lighting in the studio which throws off the color somewhat. Still, when Kate and I reviewed the photos on his computer, we were quite pleased with the results. However, prior to sending the file to ON, the photographer took the liberty of "saturating" the colors to a level that he thought was even more outstanding. I was more than a little shocked when I saw the February magazine layout showing the RS as being blue. Please refer to the March ON COMPLETELY VINTAGE R100RS pullout for a more accurate representation of the color of the raffle bike. Best of luck to all the ticket holders out there. Thanks for supporting the Foundation.

I have some of Dutch's work and it's beautiful, which I'm sure this 77RS is. This will look great next to my 78RS Motorsport!

I agree with the 12/20/20 post that the value reported to the IRS should be provided. I don't have any idea what the value might be, but the Federal income tax liability could be excessive.

Dutch has done a fantastic restoration here, there's a real talent I wish I had. All the best to all the ticket buyers, for the winner a beautiful piece of history and for the rest, just knowing you've contributed to rider safety, education and training programs to get better riders on the road should give you a warm feeling in your heart.

It would be great if there were a PayPal option, so we did not have to enter our Credit Card information. Please consider this.

Andy Weber in NC for tax value they look at year, make and model. Average price on Cycle trader is around 5k, plus in NC you get a break on a vehicle over 25 years old. You only have to present DMV VIN, year, make and model. NC DMV estimates tax at $77.

"Winner subject to all applicable taxes". That's what the rules say. What is the price tag that will be reported to the IRS for the Lucky Winner? I for one would like to know that before buying a ticket. When Hagerty gives something away they cover the tax liability.

I agree with Lonnie on the color. I had a '77 RS for over 30 years, and this one is very pretty, but too blue. Maybe it's just the lighting or the camera settings - matching the factory silber/blau can't be easy.

Beautiful bike, I have one just like it! The color doesn't look quite right to me though, its a little too blue. How did you choose the paint color? There is no current equivalent to the original color in the automotive market today and it was a one year only color.
