The BMW MOA 2019 election is over, and the results are in. Ballots were collected, counted, and reported by the independent firm of Renita M. Owens, CPA, LLC. of Greenville, South Carolina. Our winning candidates are Kelly Moore (1,899 votes), Sam Garst (1,300 votes), and Reece Mullins (1,244 votes). Marc Souliere had 1,228 votes, Greg Hutchinson had 938 votes and John Rossi had 592 votes.

Congratulations to the three candidates elected to the Board of Directors. To the candidates not elected, thank you for being a committed BMW MOA member willing to make the effort and do the necessary work to place your name on this year’s ballot. Keep in mind, we run elections every year now in accordance with our bylaws. Your opportunity to run again, along with all other BMW MOA members, will come around in less than 12 months.

A total of 2,571 ballots were counted this year which is 200 more ballots than last year’s count of 2,371. The elected board members will be seated at the 2019 BMW MOA International Rally in Lebanon, Tennessee. Once the full board is seated, the directors will elect the new officers for the BMW MOA, which will be announced at the rally.

As Secretary of the MOA, I would personally like to thank the 2019 Election Candidate Search Committee comprised of Chairman Don Hamblin from Kansas City, Missouri and Co-Chairs Muriel Farrington from White River Junction, VT and John Gamel from Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. Please try to take the time to congratulate all the candidates that ran for election this year.

What does the board say? Where is the membership? I agree, there is much to be done, but recently, I wonder what percentage of the membership sees the tangible benefits of the Club. Often, I’ve wondered if the MOA would provide a staff member or two to attend local and regional rallies each year and represent the core of the Club. Convincing others of the values of membership is becoming more difficult; perhaps a word other than ‘membership’.

I suggest that voter turnout could increase markedly if ballots were packaged with the magazine in a more eye-catching manner. I, for one, stupidly discarded mine, thinking it was a blow-in promotion like those that so frequently come with the magazine. (Thanks to Deb Lower for getting me a replacement ballot). It's really just a matter of graphic design and packaging.

Membership stands just over 26,000. A little less than 10% voted in this election. Historical numbers are closer to 5%, but have been rising in the last couple of elections.

Congrats to Kelly Moore, our outstanding President of the Beemers in the Bluegrass, Lexington, KY. All of us look forward to greeting you at the international rally! And. . . yes. . . thanks to all the other candidates!

Wow, I thought we had a lot more members! What percentage of the membership actually voted?

Thank you for this information. I would like to understand the vote a little deeper. Could you please provide the data to describe percentage of members who voted for context? Ken Dittrick
