If you are not familiar with the BMW MOA Weekend Getaways, they are hotel/resort based events for those of us who enjoy riding our beemers to faraway places but don't camp. Some call the events "Rallies," but with crowds of less than 100 and a sense of exploration, this isn't the traditional motorcycle Rally. The locations vary from Idaho to Tennessee to Texas and California. The MOA honchos do the leg work of getting the hotel or resort dinners set up and with 100 people signing up, they negotiate a nice discount on the rooms. The "Rally fee" includes a Friday and Saturday night dinner, a rally t-shirt and a gift or two in the bag.

The Arizona Weekend Getaway was held at Paco Diablo Resort just a few miles south of Sedona. The rooms at the resorts, even with the MOA negotiated discount, were in the $150 - $175 range before all the taxes and fees were applied. The onsite restaurant and the bar were both superb, although a bit on the expensive side since it is a resort environment. The grounds around the resort were stunning - a nine hole golf course complete with wedding facilities, a heated outdoor pool, indoor spa and a big hot tub. Our upstairs room overlooked the golf course from an open balcony. We even watched an otter run around one of the ponds. A large bird of prey did some fishing in another pond in the middle of the course and it was impressive.

The Friday night dinner was a Tex-Mex buffet and it was excellent! The bar had several local beers along with the standard red and white wine selections. We sat and chatted with some amazing MOA members. Saturday night's dinner was BBQ beef brisket and chicken tenderloins - both delicious! The beans, salad and desserts were right on and we ate too much, I'm sure! It was another night of fantastic company and good times.

Folks traveled upwards of 2,000 miles from the east coast to attend, but some were as close as Prescott, Arizona, a mere 65 miles away. A nice selection of door prizes followed dinner. Thanks to Bob Aldridge and Jackie Hughes from the MOA for putting the night together. Everyone went home a winner.

Wanda and I are scheduled for the MOA Getaway in Kerrville, Texas the weekend of November 10 - 12. The event takes place at the YO Ranch in the heart of Texas Hill Country. I've been waiting to ride the Three Sisters and hopefully the November weather cooperates!
