Traffic wasn't moving. It was 104 degrees in the shade and I was stuck in the #3 lane on northbound I-75, south of Atlanta. I sat long enough that I had time to check my handy traffic app and saw that the traffic jam spanned another 12 miles to downtown and I was stuck between exits. As I watched my oil temp become increasingly unhappy, I saw a lone headlight weaving (because we all know lane splitting is illegal in Georgia) between cars behind me. A few minutes later this guy pulled up next to me on a great looking K bike.

Having nothing better to do, we struck up a conversation. He told me he was from just north of the Florida panhandle and since he wasn't familiar with any BMW shops in southern Georgia, he was on his way to Atlanta to get his tires replaced. He lamented, as we melted into the roadway, how he wished there was a Beemer dealer on the south side because it would be so much closer. Stressing over trying to live through the kamikaze run up I-75, trying not to get killed by every semi leaving Florida, not to mention the minivan-driving-cell-phone-using-yelling-at-the-kids-distracted-driver, in the heat, was just plain not fun!

His wish has been answered. CycleNation of McDonough, Georgia, now Freedom Powersports / BMW Motorcycles of McDonough, inked a dealership agreement with BMW. Officially a BMW dealership as of November 2014, the dealership also carries a variety of other brands, but has dedicated BMW sales, parts and service staff.

When I went looking for the sales manager Aaron Darby, I found him glued to his computer screen reading the R9T web site. Aaron introduced me to Jonathan, their factory-approved sales enthusiast. I had a great, friendly conversation talking about business and bikes. Aaron swept his hand around the showroom and pointed out that he could get a great deal on any bike in the place, but took one look at the 9T and immediately bought one.

They definitely get the message: BMW is a lifestyle! One of the comments Jonathan made to me was, "I've found that BMW riders know their bikes, and they ACTUALLY RIDE their bikes!" Jonathan is anxious to create a connection with the BMW riders. "We're the newest in the state, and we want to create that relationship with the BMW community."

Becki Anderson is the parts and service manager. I've been doing business with her and her department for several years, while restoring some older metric bikes. I have had her parts people chase down all sorts of obscure and discontinued parts and can vouch for their service attitude and tenacity.

Becki comes from a BMW family. With her Dad, she's been to rallies, ridden the marque, knows the lifestyle. Becki wants people to know that she has a very educated staff that listens and cares about catering to the individual BMW customers. They have a good inventory of parts for the newer models and are gradually increasing their stock. Maintenance techs and the parts staff have been to the factory training. BMW has been very supportive, getting what they need quickly if it is not in stock.

The facility looks great. With a designated area for just BMW cycles and apparel they are ready for business.

We now have an option on the south side of Atlanta. Access to Freedom Powersports/ BMW Motorcycles of McDonough is easy from either exit 216 or 218 off I-75 in McDonough, GA. For more information check out their website or call them at (770) 957-7404.
