MedjetAssist, which provides air medical transport memberships, has been in partnership with BMW MOA and its members since 2007. During that time, MedjetAssist has completed more than 65 transports of BMW MOA members from all over the world, including 47 domestic locations and 18 international settings. The significance of this partnership was made evident by the life-altering story of Dr. Larry Stern, adventure motorcyclist and long-time BMW MOA member.

While on a riding tour in Thimphu, Bhutan, Dr. Stern, an orthopedic surgeon from St. Paul, Minnesota, experienced a terrifying motorcycle accident that left him with 11 broken ribs and fractures in his legs, ankles and collarbone. Once he was taken to the hospital in Thimphu, Dr. Stern reached for his wallet to pull out his Medjet card. A long-time MedjetAssist member, Dr. Stern immediately began to relax after he made the call to Medjet and realized he was protected. “I knew that someone far away was working on my behalf,” said Dr. Stern.

Members of the MedjetAssist transport team immediately began plans to repatriate Dr. Stern back to his home hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. Once back in St. Paul, he was taken by ambulance to the hospital where there was a bed waiting for him. Dr. Stern was hospitalized nine days while doctors tried to get his pain under control.

He is riding again, but only through the efforts of the Medjet transport team. “I refer them (friends and colleagues) to MedjetAssist because I couldn’t have been happier with how it was all handled,” commented Dr. Stern. “They (Medjet) allowed me to get back to health much quicker than I otherwise could have and took a lot of worry out of my life and for that I’m very grateful.”

Medjet offers BMW MOA members reduced annual membership rates for voluntary, personally-funded travel protection. The program provides Air Medical Transfer for its individual and family members who become hospitalized during business or personal travel – domestic and international, whether motorcycle-related or not. If injured or ill and hospitalized 150 miles or more from home, Medjet eliminates all costs beyond its membership fee for medical transfer to a home country hospital of your choice. Motorcycle Transfer Protection is available as an upgrade for return of your personal bike back home to a shop or dealership of your choice if injury or accident occurs during North American travel that prevents motorcycle operation.

Medjet also offers Medjet Horizon membership. When added to an annual classic Medjet membership, Horizon provides a 24/7 Crisis Response Center for Travel Security and Crisis Response consultation and coordinated in-country services for eight named crisis events.

To learn more and enroll, visit or call Medjet at 1.800.527.7478 and refer to BMW MOA. Rules/Regs available online and with your membership ID cards. Enroll prior to travel.
