Come join the fun in our second annual MOA Getaway in Canada. Our first Getaway was a resounding success with nearly 130 BMW riders attending and thousands of dollars in draw prizes given out.

This year we are changing it up a bit to make it even more fun. We have moved the Getaway about 30 miles north into the heart of granite country with windswept pines and rocky outcrops surrounding the thousands of glacial lakes in the area.

See our presentations page to learn about all the fun and interesting seminars taking place throughout the Getaway.

Get late-breaking news about this Getaway on Facebook.

To make the Getaway more broad-based, we modified the weekend to include not only interesting presentations (*updated on 4 May*) on both Friday and Saturday evenings, but also practical demonstrations on Sunday morning by Motorrad Instructor Clinton Smout. There will be an emergency first aid session by Dr. Miguel Arango and Yoga for Motorcyclists sessions conducted by Diana Londono.

All day Saturday is filled with numerous self-guided group/individual rides of 2-4 hours duration (with GPS tracks available), including an interpretive ride along the historic Trent-Severn Canal System connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Huron developed by Steve and Fran Rice. In addition - CALLING ALL GS GIANTS! - there are gnarly ATV trails on site for the more hardcore GS riders amongst us. Check out a video of a ride on the Seguin Trail.

As a special added bonus, we have included the opportunity to participate in the high-ropes confidence course (starts at noon), trekking the tall white pines dozens of feet from the ground. We have contracted professional staff to keep us safe and ensure everyone can overcome their fears! Limited spots are available at no extra cost, so sign up early with your registration.

This year we have been lucky enough to contract one of the top chefs in the area to prepare fabulous buffet-style food. We enjoyed Serge's cooking at Horizons Unlimited meetings in the past, and this year promises to be more of the same wholesome family-style food.

You will be provided with two breakfasts and two suppers, but Saturday lunch will not be provided as most will hopefully be out riding. However, for those who want more of the great food, a box lunch will be available for ordering upon registration Friday night for a nominal charge. To accommodate the staggered arrival of guests on Friday evening, the supper will consist of a BBQ from 1700-2000 hours including salads and appetizers.

Alcoholic beverages will not be available on-site, so please bring your own refreshments and mix. Liquor and beer outlets are about 20 km away in the town of Bracebridge. We will have coffee & tea available 24/7 in the dining hall.

This is a true northern camp, so it is rustic to blend in with the surroundings. There are a number of sleeping options available, including private rooms with one or two beds, bunk houses which can sleep up to 8 (we only use the lower beds), RV parking sites and endless camping spots. All have easy access to showers and washrooms. Mattresses are supplied for indoor beds, so bring your own bedding and towels. This is not a hotel-based Getaway.

The venue is charging us a flat rate per person regardless of the sleeping choice, so rather than offering a early registration deal, we are offering the accommodation choices on a first come basis in the order that the registration is received. If your preferred choice is a private single room, there is no extra cost, but once they are spoken for they will be gone, so sign up early to not be disappointed. We have nearly 300 indoor beds at our disposal, with the vast majority being bunkhouse style. Unfortunately, we will cap the event at 300 registrants, since that is the maximum the dining hall can hold. There will be unlimited camping spaces along the water edge.

There will not be any option for opting out on accommodation or meals. We have negotiated a very good price for the camp, but we are charged the same flat rate for every attendee, so the registration fee will include everything whether you use all of the amenities or not.

Facility Activities
This camp has it all: a long golf driving range, kayaks, canoes, swimming, a fabulous high ropes confidence course (starts at noon!), and of course ATV trails. Loaner golf clubs, kayaks, canoes, helmets and safety harnesses for the ropes course will be available at no additional cost.

GPS Routes
All rides will be self-guided. We will have group sign-up sheets at the registration Friday evening to find others to ride with. All routes will be available for download to your GPS unit once you sign up. You will be given access to the download link at that time. There will not be any paper route maps available on site, so learn how to use your GPS before you arrive or plan to follow along with others who sign up to ride the same route. Likewise, you will not be able to download the maps on site unless some fellow rider brings along a laptop to sync your GPS.

Special Motorrad Training Offers

Horseshoe BMW Performance School
Certified BMW Master Motorrad Instructor Clinton Smout will be demonstrating proper balance and dirt riding techniques and is always glad to answer any and all questions you may have. In addition, Clinton is again offering a 25% discount on training for any attendees upon showing your Getaway receipt.

Advanced Rider Training School
Join seasoned police motor officer Ryan Austin as he shares some of the finer points of becoming the best rider you can be on the road, based on techniques taught to police officers around the world. In addition, he will be offering a 25% discount to any of the courses he offers in Ontario, Alberta and BC upon presentation of your receipt for the Getaway. As an added bonus one lucky attendee will win a free course valued at CAN$650

Combine either of these with a possible MOA Foundation training scholarship worth US$250, and your training could be at virtually no cost! You must register to take advantage of this discount. Read more about all the sessions available on the presentations page (updated on 4 May).

The all-in cost for the entire weekend will be US$179 (CA$240 as of mid-January) per person. Your registration fee includes:

Information about the area
Georgian Bay Coastal Route
“Winding atop the Niagara Escarpment, through the La Cloche Mountains, along the Canadian Shield and alongside two of Canada's biggest freshwater beaches, this ride is all framed within this huge, stunning fresh body of water." --from the Wikipedia entry on Georgian Bay

The ChiCheemaun Ferry that connects Manitoulin Island to Tobermory is a unique way to see the bay. This route gets you as close to the shore as possible but some of the best views are just a short walk up a lookout tower, or one of the many trails. Take a glass bottom boat ride, a floatplane tour, or even a sea kayak excursion to experience it.

Georgian Bay can be done on its own or be included as part of a larger Northeastern Ontario road tour. Allow a minimum of three days for this ride. Muskoka organizer Bill Hooykaas suggests that this is a nice trip with the Muskoka Getaway as a mid-point rest stop. More info, map and other motorcycle tours on the Ontario Tourism site.
