For MC rider/campers, MCOs (Motorcycle Only Campgrounds) can be a great experience. Usually in rural setting, they are not only cost effective, but they offer the camaraderie and fellowship of other riders. Also, you needn't deal with the sometimes reluctant attitude of RV and State Park attendants toward motorcycles.

The following MCOs are listed from information provided by various contributors, starting in early 1997. They are in no particular order. The information is unverified, and is listed for the convenience of motorcycle campers. It is suggested that riders call ahead to verify the availability (and continued existence) of these business, before relying on them. Also, many MCOs are unattended, and may be difficult or impossible to find after dark. A telephone call to the owner can make your arrival and visit a success.

Spartan facilities, but be sure to call ahead and order the dinner for two. Cabin available. Good, but tough dual-sport riding available just up the canyon.

In addition, you can tour Craig’s shop and museum, with BMW's from 1940 - 1975 on display, plus many interesting ongoing restoration projects for customers. Be sure to see Craig’s 1936 BMW R17, of which only 434 were made. between 1936 and 1937. Craig says the camping is free, but wife Elaine says $5 will cover expenses.

A bit southwest of Asheville, NC. Come meet the Phillip, Leslie and J. Johnson, BMW MOA members and the new owners of the campground.  Open the first weekend of May  through the last weekend of October. they celebrate Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day with a ton of good BBQ. Good food on-site at all times, and great riding always. This is a very well-run campground that also offers camping cabins for those that are ground-challenged.

Grassy camping surrounds the trout pond at Blue Ridge Motorcycle Camp in Cruso, North Carolina.

Just off the Blue Ridge Parkway, southeast of Wilkesboro, NC.. Call or write for a flyer. Great riding, good grass camping, strictly fair facilities, though. Tom holds a couple of BMW-related events each year.

High Country Cycle Camp offers many acres of grass camping, plenty of shade and is situated on a stream. It is the site of several BMW-oriented rallies throughout the year. Facilities aren't fancy, though.
