BMW Vintage Display & Seminar-Johnson City-July 16-19 2009

 Vintage Seminar - Friday, July 17 ~10:00- 11:30 AM -  VINTAGE DISPLAY SITE

The Vintage Display takes us back to our history. Collectors of vintage bikes and riders of contemporary BMWs, are amazed at the site of over 60 antique and classic models.

BMWs from the early 1920s through the mid 1970s will be on display, including singles, twins, US models, and bikes with unique sidecars, all arranged to highlight each decade. They reflect the evolution of style, engineering and technology. Some of have been preserved as original, and others have been carefully and lovingly restored. Each represents a significant aspect of BMW motorcycle history.

Vintage BMW restorers Bob Lonergan, Jack Wells, Norm Buck, Craig Vechorik, and others will give a seminar on Friday morning entitled "BMW Motorcycles-Restoration and Preservation". Each speaker has personally restored many antique and classic BMWs. They will discuss mechanics, electrics, paint, storage, insurance and the history of these machines. Information on resources and a Q & A will complete the seminar. This is a great opportunity for vintage enthusiasts to meet, network and share information.

The bikes on display will be judged Saturday morning. Judging is based on factory originality (with some exceptions, i.e. racers, sidecar rigs); and the AMCA philosophy where each bike is assessed on its own merits beginning at 100 points.  The Awards Ceremony will take place Saturday, 1:00 PM, at the display site. Bikes rated 95 points or over will receive an Award of Excellence. In addition, two special memorial awards will be presented: The Vern Mitchell Trophy to the enthusiast whose personal efforts in restoring a pre-1970 bike are meritorious; and The Jim Falk Award to the visionary who actively promotes the preservation and restoration of Vintage bikes.

The Vintage Display is an exposition of BMW treasures meant for everyone's enjoyment. All enthusiasts are welcome to exhibit their vintage machines, and all Rally participants are welcome to visit the exhibit for a journey through BMW motorcycle history and tradition.
