Charity Challenge for 2006 May 10, 2006

The Annual Charity Challenge has been labeled "The Port Washington BMW Club Challenge". 13 years ago, the Port Club initiated the challenge to raise funds for a local national rally charity. Chartered BMW MOA clubs are challenged to match the Port's initial donation of $100.00 for the local charity. Some clubs have met or exceeded that challenge, and the Chain Gang traditionally “ups the anty” and challenges $600.00. I think you’ll agree that this year’s charity, Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, is another great opportunity to leave behind some memories and help for kids in our rally area.

The Camp’s mission and who they serve is simply stated: “Camp Ta-Kum-Ta provides challenging, extraordinary experiences in a safe and loving environment for kids who have or have had cancer. Camp exists for Vermont children and (out-of-state children who are treated in Vermont), between the ages of 7-17, at no cost to their families. It’s is a week-long resident camp on the shores of beautiful Lake Champlain. With an all-volunteer staff of 70, Ta-Kum-Ta accepts all of its children tuition-free. They're doing a great job helping the kids! Let's see what we can do, and keep exceeding our expectations!!

We are again asking chartered clubs to meet or exceed the challenge. Whether you’re a small club with a minimal budget or a large club with funds to spare. Donations should be made payable to BMW MOA, and a check will be presented to the recipient at the awards ceremony. Contributions can be mailed to Karol Patzer, P. O. Box 21187, Eagan, MN 55121, or bring your checks to the rally. Please Note on the envelope and in the memo section of the check "National Charity"

At the rally, be on the lookout for the roving 50/50 ticket sales people. Steve Johnson and Charlie Payson are organizing members of the Chain Gang, and many other volunteers to be on site selling tickets. To continue the tradition, winners will be drawn throughout the rally and will be posted at the charity table. 50% of the proceeds will be contributed to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, and 50% of each drawing will be given to the lucky ticket holders. Let's keep those 50/50 volunteers busy and raise money for a great cause, If you’re not into 50/50s….look around, we will have many other opportunities to contribute, including a bike raffle.

Thanks for your help, and have a great time in Vermont
