BMW Mobile Tradition
Two experts on BMWs history have returned to the U.S. to show of the new parts
and accessories offered by Mobile Tradition to help keep all of those classic
BMW on the road. Andreas Miessner and Georg Blumoser will also provide sample
copies of "Mobile Tradition Live," the new publication BMW vintage fans
(of both cars and bikes), free from Ernst Henne 100th. They'll be looking for
feedback on how Mobile Tradition can better serve U.S. riders of BMW vintage bikes.

Skymed Takes You Home
Skymed is an emergency air evacuation service. Fred Whitcomb, new accounts manager,
will discuss Skymed's ability to take its members, family and motorcycle/vehicle
home to the medical facility/doctor of their choice in the case of a critical
illness, accident or medical emergency. Members are covered when traveling in
the U.S., Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.

"The Beep Goes On"
Meet Michelle Hand and Dal Smilie, who work proactively when legislative or
administrative actions may affect any aspect of motorcycling as transportation.
This topic is much larger than helmet laws and "freedom fighters."
An 11-minutes video, produced by Michelle, created as a response to those who
consider motorcycling a "hobby" and redress stereotyping of bikers,
will be followed by an open discussion. Michelle started riding at 12 and serves
on the Montana Motorcycle Safety Advisory Committee, chaired by Dal. Dal, an
AMA Hall of Fame inductee, is nationally recognized for 35 years of motorcycle
rights activity. He currently serves as the AMA Vice Chair and Director in the
NW region. Both are MOA members, Dal a Life Member.

Qigong Tai Chi
Andrea Borella, a long time motorcyclist who also loves to run and practice
yoga and meditation. She received certification to teach this form of Tai Chi
in 2001 by Grand Master Foo Wei Zhong. This is an introductory practice of Da
Dao Chan Gong form of Qigong. This will be a brief overview and 35 minutes of
Qigong exercise. Wear loose fitting clothing and give your analytical mind a
siesta.

Matt the Balloon Guy and 2003 F650 Dakar rider, has been paying his way through
college by twisting balloons. Learn to twist balloons as Matt makes everything

the Beemerville pedestrian mall passing out his creative art.

An entertaining audio-video presentation that will inform as well as stir the

Tech Talk With BMW Motorrad USA Technical Personnel - 1
BMW Motorrad USA technical personnel Doug Higham and Jack DelPizzo will discuss
topics guaranteed to excite riders who want to know about the latest and greatest.
Included in the two seminars (Tech Talk 1 and Tech Talk 2) will be discussion
on the new K-engine designed for the K1200 S and the brand new K 1200 R as well
as the extraordinary handling offered by the new Duolever suspension technology.
Engine cutaway and other machine component displays never before seen outside
the BMW Master Tech training room will be shown. If you're a gear-head, this
is for you.

So You Wanna Ride Your Own Bike?
Are you a passenger and want to the driver? Are you contemplating owning your
own motorcycle? Have you started to learn and need some support? Join Susanna
Parkhouse and Marlene Hill, two women who started their riding adventures in
their mid to late 40s and now find that riding has become the prime focus of
their lives. Marlene has her own MSF school. Susanna is a partner in BMW Ducati
of Southern Colorado. Both travel extensively by two wheels. This seminar is
for men and women. No question is too dumb.

Problem Solving, K Bike Style
An interactive approach to "How do I fix my broken bike?" or "I
think my bike is broken, is it really?" We all have problems with out bikes
now and then. How we approach the problems makes them simple or irritating beyond
belief. This seminar is dedicated to making problem resolution simpler. You,
the audience, will provide examples. While the presentation is K bike specific,
the methods work on any model. Brian Curry has maintained and work on his BMW
motorcycles for 30 years. He has ridden K75RTs over 298,000 miles. He has done
testing to verify or disprove claims, he has professional experience in finding
and fixing the real problem, not the symptom. His tech articles have been published
on the IBMWR website "Frequently Asked Questions."

Motorcycle Travel Network (MTN) - The Bed & Breakfast Alternative
Scott and Christi Reynolds, having ridden motorcycles their whole lives, ditched
the rat race July of '04 to take off on an extended tour of the U.S. on their
RTs. They spent the first part in the West and will be heading East before returning
home in the summer of '06. Along the way the decided to start a hosting organization
exclusively for motorcycle enthusiasts. They will discuss MTN, an alternative
to hotels, hostels or camping. They will also give tips on how to "budget
travel" inexpensively.

Paul Johnson is the new Consumer Affairs Liaison for MOA. He would like to meet

will focus individually on BMW Motorrad USA motorcycles, BMW accessories and
apparel, aftermarket performance, comfort and apparent. This will be general

Not MSF (My Stinkin' Fault) - Lessons Learned from 25 Years in the Safety Business
Lawrence Grodsky, owner/operator of Stayin' Safe Motorcycle Train and an MSF
instructor since 1980, will give an overview of Stayin' Safe's on-road training
tours for experienced riders. He will humorously look back at 25 years of motorcycle
safety instruction, offering safety tips and video clips from real world training
rides. Larry has written the Stayin' Safe column in Rider Magazine since 1988.
Presently Larry conducts 2 & 3 day training tours throughout the Appalachians,
as well as Wisconsin and California. In conjunction with Iberian Moto Tours,
he also leads a one week tour in Spain.

GPS Navigation: Benefits of GPS Receivers for Motorcyclists
Sean Franklin, a long-time BMW rider and technology enthusiast, will lead an
entry-level discussion on GPS technology and how it can be used on a motorcycle.
He will overview the various GPS receivers offered by Garmin. Mounting and interfacing
will also be covered. Sean, the technologist, formed CycleGadgets.com four years
ago to bring to motorcyclists an on-line resource for unique accessories for
touring motorcyclists.

In November/December 2004 Stefan Knopf, owner of Knopf Motorradreisen, led 12
BMW motorcycles through Chile and Argentina. Stefan says the presentation is
a "good story," including all the "good things and all the problems."

Looking for Needles - How the Federal Government Investigates Recall Problems
Since 1987, when he first joined "Club-Fed," Bob Young has been one
of twenty investigators with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's
Office of Defects Investigations. During that time his investigations have resulted
in the recall of more than 18 million vehicles and produced the first civil
penalty on a manufacturer for providing misleading information to the agency.
His primary focus is on motorcycles and he will be discussing those cases. Bob
is an avid BMW motorcyclist, an MSF instructor and is a two-time recipient of
the Secretary of Transportation's Award for Meritorious Achievement. He is a
recognized authority on the role "human factors" play in certain types
of vehicle crashes.

Wake up with a cup of coffee and a chat hosted by David L. Hough, author of
the "Between the Ears" column in the Owners News. "Coffee with
Dave" has been a popular attraction at previous rallies not merely because
Dave (and his sponsors) treat you to free coffee and pastries, but because Dave
usually invites some interesting guests. Format is open dialogue, feel free
to make comments or ask questions about anything relating to motorcycles.

Voni Glaves (partner of Paul) has ridden over 700,000 sMiles, many of them solo.
In that time, she, a self-described NON-tech person has learned a trick or two.

share a few magic tricks that have kept her smiling. Voni has ridden in all
the states, except Hawaii, all the Canadian provinces; she's just returned from
a 5-country Ayres African Trilogy, a 48+ ride and is heading for New Zealand
soon.

Very Basic Tech
"Bench Wrenching" author Paul Glaves provides an easygoing presentation
of mechanical information, which every rider ought to know, to understand their
BMW motorcycle and to keep in a sound and safe working order. This seminar is
aimed at riders with some, little or no mechanical skill. Several basic topics
will be covered, including tire care subjects, both seminars in an easygoing
question and answer format. Paul Glaves, former President of BMW MOA, has written
the "Bench Wrenching" column in the Owners News for almost five years
and has presented this seminar and other technical seminars at the national
and other rallies for many years. Paul and his wife, Voni, have accumulated
over 1,100,000 miles on BMW motorcycles since 1977 and Paul has done virtually
all of the maintenance on their many different BMWs

Jim Falk has chaired the Vintage Display at the National for the last 14 years.
He personally owns and has restored ten vintage models, including five pre-war

Not So Basic Tech
"Bench Wrenching" author Paul Glaves picks up where "Very Basic
Tech" leaves off to explore more advanced maintenance tips, important to
you in keeping your motorcycle running and in top condition. This seminar will
cover many of the common problems encountered on the several different BMW models,
and will include topics such as advanced preventive maintenance, troubleshooting
problems, and repair. This seminar will include plenty of time for Q&A with
topics covering what the audience feels is most important. This seminar immediately
follows the simpler presentation of "Very Basic Tech." (for further

and how to recognize little problems before they become big ones.

Ayres Adventures in Africa
Ron Ayres will present a lively 45-minutes program that depicts what it is like
to participate in one of the company's African Adventures. The show will be
divided into three sections which correspond to the three major African tour
categories offered by Ayres Adventures: "Southern Cross" (South Africa's
Wild Coast, Garden Route and Wine Route - featuring Cape Town), "Steel
Safari" (focusing on the wildlife of Botswana and Namibia), and "Diamonds,
Deserts and Dunes" (Cape Town to Windhoek). In addition to a musical video
presentation, Ron will offer some observations about riding in various African
countries and will answer questions about the company's trips. Ron founded Ayres
Adventures in 2002 and has conducted combination motorcycle tours and 4x4 safaris
in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Zambia and Zimbabwe. He has written

Airhead Electrics and Charging
Matt Parkhouse, author of the "Keep 'em Flying" column for the Owners
News, will discuss routine maintenance and trouble shooting of the air-cooled
BMW charging, lighting and other electrical systems. Matt has worked more or
less continuously, on BMW motorcycles (airheads) since 1977. He's a certified
BMW tech and is one of the partners of BMW Ducati of Southern Colorado.

Protection from a "Silent Killer" When You Ride
Mark McMahon, OHC, is an occupational hearing conservationist who, together
with his wife Linda, own Brite Ears for over five years. Mark will discuss how
to reduce and possibly prevent further damage to your hearing by utilizing the
proper hearing protection when you ride. Discussed will be early warning signs
of hearing loss and what you can and should do to minimize these symptoms. Focus
will also be on what you can do to prevent the hearing you have left.

The New New Thing, An Overview of the BMW MOA Website Development Plans
This is a social gathering of users of the BMW MOA forum and any new members,
new riders or anyone just plain feeling "new," to discuss plans for

A Q & A will be part of the presentation which will be led by Rob Nye, currently
having overall responsibility for the website, Dave Swider, who's the manager

Davis Bales, former California attorney and 10-year resident of Brazil, will
introduce you to his BMW m/c touring company. After a brief discussion on touring

The Vertically Challenged Motorcyclist
Do you have a short inseam? Do you stand on tiptoes when your bike is not in
motion? Join four individuals who have hundreds of thousands of miles to their
credit, despite the fact that they are "vertically challenged." SKERT,
aka Carol Yourorski, is 5'3", rode in the Iron Butt in '01 and now rides
a K1200RS. Sue Rihn-Manke, at 5'4", just purchased a R1150Gs and basically
rides any bike she feels like. Glen Bishop is not only a "HE," and
vertically challenged, but is a bit of a pro at lowering the old twins. Andrea
Borella admits to being short and also rides any bike she chooses. A Q&A
format with tips on things to make the bike easier to ride, where no question
is too dumb.

instructing women and men on the challenging mountain roads of North Georgia.

SKERT's Dropped Bike Demo
SKERT, aka Carol Youorski, has put over 200k on BMW's. Because of her short
height and desire to ride a K75 as her first BMW, she need to learn how to pick
the bike up, a lot, due to her beginning inability to balance the bike correctly
while on tip toes. Since those days she has ridden several different bikes and
has dropped them in some of the most interesting places. Having heard, as most
of you have, that if you can't pick up your own bike you shouldn't ride, Skert
has devised a technique for getting a bike upright that even the smallest person
can do.

Christian Neuhauser, Editor in Chief of RoadRunner magazine, who been riding

RoadRunner, a motorcycle magazine fairly new to the market. RoadRunner is about
the ride, not about the type, model or brand. Instead of saying to your friend,
No, I don't read that magazine because I don't see my brand often enough,"
this mag is about planning a trip, choosing a destination, and the excitement
of sharing experiences.

Motorcycling With Children
Doug Grosjean has ridden approximately 320,000 miles on various brands over
the past 30 years, including 100,000 on BMWs. His son, Jean-Luc, has ridden
pillion for approximately 30,000 miles over the past 5 years, including several
multi-day camping trips. Jean-Luc successfully completed the MSF riding course
for children at the Honda Training Center in nearby Troy, Ohio in 2002 at age

Meet BMW MOA's Executive Director
Ray Zimmerman has been the Executive Director of the BMW MOA for nearly five

Extending the Ride: Conditional and Pain Management for Riders of All Ages
Dave Cwi and Dr. Sean Barret will address all riders seeking to extend their
days riding or their riding day. Dave will review and give solutions to mental
and physical causes of riding "discomfort." Sean will address the
consequences of certain medications, conditions and ailments affecting riders.
There will be a Q&A and will conclude with a discussion of what works and
doesn't work to relieve pain and ride all day more comfortably.

Matt Parkhouse, author of the "Keep 'em Flying" column for the Owners
News, has worked more or less continuously, on BMW motorcycles (airheads) since
1977. He's a certified BMW tech and one of the partners of BMW Ducati of Southern
Colorado. He's the co-Airmarshal (along with wife, Susanna) for Colorado. Matt
has ridden 400,000 airhead miles with plans for many more. He will discuss routine
maintenance and normal trouble shooting of slide and CV Bing carbs.

Gary Sibley is a frequent contributor to the BMW ON and has given the Rider
Wear seminar for five years. He gained his knowledge of the subject the old

Paul Taylor, 2003 Ironbutt Rally winner will discuss the experience of riding
the IRB, equipment and accessories recommended, winning strategies and riding

Airhead and Boxer Cup Racing - A Conversation With Udo Geitl
Udo Gietl has been involved with motorcycles for the last 45 years - 16 with
BMW, 17 with Honda and the rest in the military. For starters, Udo is primarily
responsible for the BMW Boxer Cup. He personally built #21 and #95 BMWs, on
display at the Barber Museum; #19 and #1 Honda's on display at the Barber Museum;
and, #83 and #36 BMWs on display at Mobil Tradition in Munich. Udo took the
Superbike title on BMWs in '76 (1, 2 & 3 points) and tied in '78. He took
Superbike titles on Hondas from '84 to '87 and Formula 1 titles from '82 to
''85 on Hondas. He was the crew chief for Brian Parriott on the Boxer Cup in
Dayton in 2003 where Brian came in 2nd and in 2004 where Brian came in 1st.

Airhead Charging System
Gary Smith, Tech Session columnist for the Owners News, using a fully operating
airhead charging system, which hooked up to a mounting stand and driven by a
variable speed motor, will go over the various components comprising the system.
He will discuss how these components are physically and mechanically hooked
up and how these parts work in conjunction with one another. The seminar is
intended to remove some of the mystery often associated with the charging system.
Some practical tips will be provided for diagnosing and repairing charging system
failures. In addition, some practical advice will be given on how to avoid failures
by servicing the system from time to time and the importance of not abusing
the system.

David Hough literally wrote the book, "Driving a Sidecar Outfit,"
on sidecar handling skills, and developed the sidecar training course currently
being administered by the Evergreen Safety Council as the "Sidecar/Trike
Education Program." Join David and other sidecarists (please bring your
sidecar) for a good opportunity to look at different outfits, and discuss different
approaches to sidecars. Dave is President of the USCA Sidecar Safety Program.

in June and another fortnight in August. With the gala 100th anniversary TT

your juices flowing and begin planning your own Manx adventure. Paul Golde,
Product Development Manager for Fairchild Sports (formerly IFW), vows to continue
this seminar every year until everyone in the audience raises their hand when
asked "how many here have been to the TT races?" 2005 was Paul's 13th
return to the TT.
