BMW Motorrad's sales in the first half of 2015 reached the highest levels in the history of the company, with 78,418 motorcycles and maxi scooters sold worldwide - a 10.5% rise over the same period in 2014. June 2015 itself set a record for the company, with a 31% rise in sales over June 2014 to a stunning 15,490 vehicles. BMW Motorrad remains on track to set a sales record for the year.
BMW is the market leader in motorcycles over 500 CC in Germany and Spain, and demand for the company's motorcycles is rising steadily in Asian markets, especially China.
The top-selling BMW motorcycle remains the water-cooled R 1200 GS, with 14,099 sold in the first half, followed by the R 1200 GS Adventure (10,429), R 1200 RT (6,471), and R nineT (5,868), which has far exceeded sales expectations in its second year on the market.
The S 1000 RR sold 5,654 units and its roadster sister the S 1000 R 4,134. The above-mentioned models account for the sales of 46,655 motorcycles, nearly 60% of the bikes sold so far this year. BMW says the new R 1200 R and RS are also selling well but didn't provide specific numbers.
