Facelifts for 2016

In 2015, BMW Motorrad shook things up by releasing new models (R 1200 RS, S 1000 XR) and updating or revamping others (R 1200 R, S 1000 RR, F 800 R). The buzz was mighty and the new bikes are already rolling off showroom floors. For 2016, though, BMW Motorrad focused on more cosmetic changes.
Despite the average BMW rider’s penchant for high-visibility riding gear, there is a definite appeal for a motorcycle that’s completely blacked out. Whether this appeals to the bad boy (or girl) that’s inside many of us or the simple fact that it just flat-out looks cool, the special edition R 1200 GS Triple Black is sure to drive some sales when it’s released.
BMW calls the paint used on the body panels “black storm metallic,” but the finish doesn’t stop there. The fork tubes are anodized black and the spoke wheels are glossy black, too. The agate gray frame, engine, gearbox and swingarm aren’t black, but the gray is nicely dark and looks to be a nice accent color for the overall effect.
The Triple Black will feature BMW’s banking-optimized ABS Pro – that’s right, ABS that works when you’re leaned over! European models get the new dynamic brake light, but that feature can’t be on US models until it attains DOT certification.
The non-special edition GS bikes will be available in a light white non-metallic color that replaces the current Alpine white. This color swap applies to the GS Adventure as well, and the 2016 GSA will be available in a choice of two matte finishes as well – racing red and ocean blue. Olive and racing blue metallic have been discontinued.
While ABS Pro – which comes to the R 1200 RT, S 1000 XR and K 1600 bikes as well – is the only technological update for 2016, a lot of models are getting new color choices.
Updated colors will be available for the following: F 800 GT (monolith metallic matte/sapphire black metallic), R 1200 RT (platin bronze metallic), S 1000 RR (black storm metallic/racing red non-metallic - pictured just above), K 1600 GT (cosmic blue metallic/black storm metallic - pictured below), K 1600 GTL (ocean blue metallic matte), and K 1600 GTLE (sparkling storm metallic)
These color options will be available to order starting in August 2015.
