The first quarter of 2015 was spectacular, but BMW Motorrad broke all previous sales records in April by selling 16,554 units worldwide, a 1.3% increase over April 2014. Through the end of that month, sales are up 6.3% on the year over 2014, to 47,924 motorcycles and maxi scooters.
BMW credits the sales rise to the new models of the R and S series, with demand for the revamped S 1000 RR and R 1200 R being especially strong. The R nineT, R 1200 GS Adventure and R 1200 RT continue to sell well.
BMW Motorrad Head of Sales and Marketing Heiner Faust said, “We are pleased to see the market recovering in Europe. Above all, Spain is showing strong signs of a rebound. Demand for our vehicles is on the rise in Asia, too.
“The new models with flat-twin and four-cylinder engines will be joined by two more models in the course of the season. On 16 May, the R 1200 RS sports tourer will launch, and this latest boxer model was already chose as the Motorcycle of the Year by readers of MOTORRAD magazine even before its launch. We are currently presenting the S 1000 XR to the international media, and it will be on sale from 13 June.”
