After four straight years of sales records, BMW Motorrad started 2015 with a significant bump in sales. January saw the sale of 6,263 motorcycles and maxi scooters, up 15.2% from sales in January 2014.
Heiner Faust, BMW Motorrad's Head of Sales and Marketing, said, "Never before have we sold more motorcycles in the first month of the year. Our current model range is meeting a strong demand worldwide, and numerous innovative vehicles will be supplementing our product portfolio this coming season.
The new S 1000 RR will be in dealerships in the spring; it features increased engine output, an 8.8 pound weight reduction and enhanced rideability. The two new boxers, the R 1200 R and the R 1200 RS, are also lined up for the start of the riding season. BMW Motorrad also continues its series of characteristic parallel twins in the mid-range segment with a new edition of the F 800 R.
The S 1000 XR, the fourth model in the family of powerful, sports-oriented motorcycles with inline 4-cylinder engines, combines the qualities of the GS as well as touring and sport models to create a whole new category of motorcycles: Adventure Sport. Look for these motorcycles on showroom floors in late spring or early summer.
