When Nolan developed its N-44 Trilogy crossover helmet, their designers didn't rest on their laurels. They took the lessons they learned from that helmet and applied them to their new N-40 open-face helmet. The N-40 gives the rider flexibility with a maximum field of vision - and an integrated, flip-down sun shield.
The helmet is constructed of a lightweight polycarbonate shell which incorporates a built-in spoiler to improve stability at any speed. The fully removable and washable Clima-Comfort liner is antibacterial, antifungal, and wicks moisture. A separate removable neck roll lowers wind noise, and the cheek pads can be modified for a custom fit for any rider.
The improved Airbooster ventilation system channels air through tubes to disperse it efficiently along the crown of the helmet; along with the removable neck roll, this should greatly enhance summer comfort.
Nolan's Vision Protection System (VPS) - the scratch- and fog-resistant sunshield (also available in amber, light blue or light smoke) - is lowered with a slider and retracted with a press-to-release mechanism located on the lower trim of the helmet.
The main face shield - optically correct, of course, and equipped with UV protection - covers the rider's entire face, yet maintains an exceptionally large eye port. An included peak can be installed with the face shield in place to further enhance sun protection.
The N-40 is DOT approved in the US and ECE-2205 approved in Europe. It is available in sizes XS through XXL in solid colors (flat black, gloss black, black graphite, arctic gray, platinum silver, and white) for $269.95 and in high-visibility yellow and orange (pictured, with peak installed) for $309.95. While the MCS variant ($369.95 in flat black, gloss black and platinum silver), with wired communications already installed, is available for Honda Gold Wing and various Harley-Davidson models, Nolan says they're working on a variant for BMW motorcycles.
