As of the end of September 2014, BMW has for the first time in its history sold over 100,000 motorcycles in just nine months. The 9,991 motorcycles and scooters sold in September – itself nearly an 8% increase over same-month sales from last year – pushed total units sold to 100,217, beating the previous year’s same-point total of 93,154.
Germany remains BMW’s largest market, with the 17,068 units sold there making up nearly 25% of the market share. The US, Italy, France and the UK round out BMW’s top five markets.
This puts BMW Motorrad on track to sell as many as 120,000 motorcycles and scooters in 2014.
According to non-official, non-BMW-corporate reports, nearly half of the BMW motorcycles being sold are from the GS line.
