HP2 Sport is here... (copied from Oilhead forum)
It was first time announced as a concept last year, "R1200S Endurance Racer concept", and we saw her racing and being nightmare to Duc 1098 et al... The long waited two cylinder hurricane is officially announced.

Absolutely impressive. Thanks for the post and associated pictures. Only question though, where does the hottie biker babe, with the big hair, halter top, and exposed thong, park herself when riding two-up? Lusting to know...., eagar to find out. J.K.

It's very impressive.
BMW is making a move on a younger market - and this is going to be a big foot in the door if the price isn't too silly. The photos make it exhude pure class. I love the cylinder head - the valve setup with the rocking finger (they call it a "drag lever") is lifted directly off the S54 M3 car engine design. This uses a very tiny shim on top of the valve stem to set the clearances. Nice setup - and one that is very stable over time, and the entire design has less moving mass than a cam/follower design - allowing for higher RPMs and less forceful valve springs. It also - in this configuration looks very easy to adjust (the finger is moved out of the way to remove the shim - and on the M3 engine - the finger just slides to the side on the shaft it rocks on - after removing a retainer..) Neat. Can't wait to see one in person.. I'm going to see if I can add a link to this thread on the Hexhead forum..

problem
Here's my problem...
One thing I hate about the Japanese bikes is they consistinetly change so that a 2 year old bike is "out-dated". So at the start of 07 I by a new 1200s, now I'm told it's been upgraded? Is this going to be they're standard model in a year or so, or will BMW handle this like Ducati where you can get the standard model or S model? Also, does anyone knw the cost of this new model??

Just when I thought I had BMW's nomenclature down, they do this. Can anyone help me? What, other than the paint code on the frame, does this bike have in common with the HP2 Enduro? Is it the engine? Not the suspension obviously. Maybe it's the price tag!
Or is HP2 a series designation in it's own right, like K, R, F etc.? IMO, HP 1,2,3 etc would have made more sense than HP2 Enduro, Sport. But hey, what do I know. Beautiful bike though. (Tail light/License plate could use some work) The modern equivalent of the R100S Motorsport.
