This ride report is of Hawaii, my 50 th State on a BMW Motorcycle, The Islands of Maui, Kauai, Oahu & the Big Island were visited.
The three week trip highlights were the lava flowing at our feet, an extreme down hill mountain bicycle ride, best hiking, sightseeing, snorkeling imaginable, and being able to rent and ride a R1150R BMW motorcycle on the island Oahu. It was a trip of a lifetime. The King/King Kamehameha, (The original Statue) north end of the Big Island
![]() Waipi'o Valley overlook ![]() Below: Shoreline between Waipio Valley and Hilo ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We spent 4 days on the Big Island. Day 1: Plane time. Our flight landed at Kona on the Big Island.Stayed at the Kona Seaside. The Seaside chain is kind of like a 80 Buck Hawaiian Hotel 6. Day 2: We then drove a clockwise coastal auto tour, Kona to Hilo. Stayed at Hilo Seaside. Day 3: At Wednesday's sunrise we enjoyed the Hilo Farmers Market . This is rated as one of the best farmers market in all the Hawaiian Islands, with great fresh home grown flowers, fruit, & vegetables. The market also features souvenirs and local crafts. After the Hilo Market we toured Volcanoes National Park, returning to the Hilo Seaside by midnight. Day 4: An early morning tour of the Hilo area. We leave Hilo and continue our Circle tour to the Black Beaches and on to the most southern point in the USA. We ended the day back at the Kona Seaside. Day 5: In the early morning toured some Kona coffee Plantations. In the afternoon we went to the Place of Refuge. The Place of Refuse is the best snorkeling I have ever done! Back to the Kona seaside, and a very early morning inter-island flight to Maui. The four day total rent-a-car mileage on the Big Island was 600 miles. Remember to bring your flashlight, or you will have a dangerous walk back to your vehicle in the dark...

A few months after we were home, a 30 acre shelf fell into the Ocean.

The island of Hawaii makes up over half of the area of the state of Hawaii. It is called the Big Island partly to avoid confusion The Big Island Hawaii Web Site Last edited by BeerTeam; 03-17-2007 at 09:16 AM. |

The Hawaii trip was great. The not so great was 11 times up and down and layovers at airports. From Milwaukee to hub at Minneapolis to connector flight at Portland, and then Island hoping.![]()
