R1100R with Spokes?

Today I saw a R1100R with spoked wheels. It had to be a late 90s early 2000 model. Is this customized or an option? Never noticed it before.

R1100R with Spokes?

The 1998, 75th Anniversary Special Edition, R1100R-SE, and the 1999 R1100R-SE had spoke wheels from the factory. There may have been other iterations of the R1100 to have spoke wheels also.
Original issue RTPs also had factory spoke wheels which were removed at the insistance of the California HP.
There may be more.

2001 r1100rl

Ultracyclist and I both have '01 R1100RL (Limited?) bikes that came standard with spoke wheels and chrome valve heads. This was the last year of the 1100Rs, but many sources do not even show the 2001 model as an 1100. Our bikes are identical with the black tanks and white pinstriping. I love the look of the bike and get many compliments on it.

Long ago, I uploaded a picture of the bike on this site, but am not technologically advanced enough to point anyone there or upload it to this post. As a side note, I am not sure if BMW made the 2001 R1100R in a configuration different from mine. Maybe they had some extra spoke wheels, motor & tranny assemblies, frames, and 1200 chrome valve covers left over and decided to kit everything together to clear out the inventory in anticipation of the 1150s?

I also had a 2001 R1100RL with the spoked wheels. I don't own it anymore, however.

I still have the fairing and windshield and it is for sale. (shameless plug)

yeah...the spoked wheels do look rather cool, and I was initially attracted to my bike because of the spoked retro look.

But, they are time consuming to keep clean. Lately, my spokes seem to be attracting tar.

There is much to be said for simpler wheels. I like the snowflake wheels, but I am not sure they would look right on an R1100RL.

Where did you get the black valve covers?

What kind of 308 do you have?

Those are the stock chrome valve covers identical to the R1200C
they were very scratched and gouged so I sand blasted them and wrinkle painted them.

I have a 1985 Ferrari 308 GTS QV

just love it.

I also sell, service and restore Ferraris, check out my site www.sportclassiccomp.com

See this '96 w/ spoke wheels for sale in VA just outside of Wash DC. I am just providing a pic and have no connection to the bike or the seller.

Hayulp!!!

I rode my 97 R1100RT to Guatemala last summer. When I Got back the 3 spoke aluminum wheels looked like someone had taken a 20 pound sledge to them. Had to replace both. Took the 95 R100RT with spoke wheels the year before and the wheels are fine. Just where can I get a set of spokes wheels to fit on the 97 so I can ride south on the 97 again?
