Gas in Eastern OR
Last rally in Redmond, a few years ago, I decided to ride to Missoula again, and take the Lolo West. The likely roads from there include 95 and 26. These roads look a good deal better on the map than they do in real life. Gas stations are few and far between. In fact, I've rarely ridden on a more desolate looking road. It's pretty much high desert and nothing else.If you choose that route, don't pass a gas stop. I was running very much on vapors when I found a tiny, dilapidated general store that had one low octane pump. Redmond and Prineville are the edge of civilization out there. But the last Redmond Rally was a big success. ![]() Eastern OR would be a good place to build a prison; sort of an Alcatraz without the water. Last time, the ride home was splendid. Crater Lake, then up the OR coast, seeing Boeing friends in Seattle, then the ferry to Victoria, Tofino and up to Port Hardy and back. The Redmond Rally is a fine excuse to do some serious moto travel. . . . ...o&\o... . . . . Jim |

My brother and I took 26 and 7 to Baker City, then 86 and 39 through the Hells Canyon Area, north to Joseph. Note: 39 is not marked on some maps.
We really liked this ride, so much so that in the following October I returned with my wife, and we drove much of the same route in her sportscar. This time we turned north at Mount Vernon and drove at night through the Umatilla Forest. We had the top down, and it was about +5 C. I wanted to put the top up, but she said to leave it be and turn the heater on. ![]() In Pendleton we found a great bar and had a few beers with the locals. I love the Oregon high desert.
