K1 Fan Question

A question for you K tech guys. This summer (1990 K1) my fan stopped working and my bike would start to overheat once the going was slow, on the highway no problem. Since I was on my holidays I had to leave my bike with a shop in Calgary. The mechinac there has tested the temp sensor, the wiring, the relay, the fan and these all work. He has come to the conclusion that the Motronic unit is not giving the ground signal to the fan so that it starts working. Is there anything else to try? Am I going to have to purchase a new or used Motoronic unit or is there some work around to get the fan to work? Thanks for your help.

I think I would hard wire a toggle switch for a few bucks before I spent the money for a new motronic unit for this. Did it 25 years ago on my Bavaria and that was that....
