Transmission Fluid Change Dilema
I bow to Mr. Semper Fi. I went to the dealer to buy the oil for my 08RT Transmission the other day and was asked "synthetic or regular". Being the anal being I am I said synthetic. I went to Mr. Semper Fi's DIY and the picture shows full synthetic 75W90 oil to be used. Whoa there, I bought full synthetic 75W140.
Yep I called the dealer and they said there bulletin says to use 75W140 for transmissions. They also said the 75W90 was only for the final drive. I am not trying to cuase any confusion beyond my own. I am pretty confident in my man Semper Fi, he knows his stuff here. I also trust the dealer in Chico, CA "Ozzies". What is a do it yourselfer to do here??

You are quite right, I am in the process of updating the Tranny DIY to be 75W140
Cheers

Any idea why BMW is now requiring heavier oil in the hexhead transmissions?

Both ends;
FD and Tranny here, I use the same 75-140. The two oils are NO different 75-90 vs 75-140w! The latter can handle MORE heat stress, thats all
and thicken as needed, when things get really hot. Your FD/Tranny should never get there. Randy

I asked why the change because I'm apparently 2 changes behind. My hexhead RepROM, 5th edition, dated 02/2007, says use SAE 90 GL 5 hypoid gear oil. So I missed the change to 75W-90 AND the subsequent change to 75W-140.
