Tom, when did this supposedly happen? I have not been able to verify this as yet. I have searched the news links online as well as death notices and have found nothing. I know Lyle pretty well and this is very disturbing. I will post info here if I find out anything.

I am very sorry to report the following. This is a quote from a posting by BMW MOA executive director Ray Zimmerman at about 4:30pm (PDT) today to the Ambassadors:

Lyle was a great guy and will be missed.

This is what I found on Google.

He was a good friend.

August 10, 2009

Earlier today, a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle killed a man from Westwego, LA.

Troopers responded to the crash around 9:00 am, which occurred on I-49 approximately 20 miles south of the Natchitoches exit (138 exit). The crash involved a 2009 BMW motorcycle, driven by Lyle A. Grimes (W/M 79 yrs). The motorcycle was south bound on I-49 when Grimes lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the motorcycle began overturning which resulted in the driver being ejected.

Grimes was transported to Natchitoches Parish Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation. Routine toxicology tests are pending.

Doing what he loved! He was a great guy. I can only hope to be around that long, let alone riding.

Met Lyle a number of times over the years at a number of rally's. He was a great guy.
If I remember right he's had a number of minor accidents in recent years and many wondered if he would park his bike. He didn't though and thats OK. I'm glad to have met him and will think of him fondly, he was a lot of fun just to be around.
Ride in peace Lyle...

I"m so sad. I can only be happy that I got in a couple hugs at the Chicken rally and at the National and a little time to talk to him again. He's been one of the people I always looked forward to seeing at every rally I've gone to for years. A kind man, interesting, and humble. That's how I remember him.

God Bless him

Ride IN Peace, Lyle

I am so sorry to hear about Lyle.

We always loved seeing him at our GA Mt Rally , and every other rally I went to, it seems. Such a nice person and long-time rider. Lately, I rember seeing him at the Chicken Rally, early in the morning about daylight, sitting near the coffee chatting and smiling. And I believe I saw him at the MOA in TN. We will miss him.

At least he had a pretty long run, and kept riding the whole way.
