For us Flower Children- Wolfgang's Vault

Has anyone caught the piece about Bill Graham's rock collection on CBC Sunday or 60 Minutes?

Since he started promoting his rock concerts in dance halls in the 60's, he had been collecting everything from the posters and photos, to live recordings that for years no one knew existed. He had inspired artists to create psychedelic posters and always overprinted everything from back stage passes to tickets and kept everything preserved in mint condition.

Bill Graham's business and collection was purchased for 5 million dollars and the person who bought it estimates it's value to be over 50 million. The person who bought it wasn't even aware of the extent of the collection.

The new owner has since cataloged and photographed every piece and formed a website for fans to purchase some of this rare memorabilia. Much of the super rare stuff is being kept and not for sale.

It's called Wolfgang's Vault since Bill Graham's real name was Wolfgang.

For you music buffs, check out streaming rare concert recordings on their website being made public for the first time on Vault Radio and be sure and turn your volume up.

Keep on Rocking in the Free World.

I saw the piece and it was very interesting having followed Bill Grahams legacy since the late 60's. You should know however that the only one who values the collection at anywhere close to 50 million is the new owner.. He not only bought the Bill Graham Collection but he has bought various other retail and online collections as well in an effort to corner the rock memorabilia market and inflate the prices of these items. Even though his website is impressive and informative the posters and other goods offered can be had on the open market 30 to 50% less than he charges.

Stuff like this should be against the law... and the same goes for using classic rock tunes for commercials.

No arguments as to what's available out there and the value, but much of the posters from Wolfgang's vault are the original print run from Bill Graham's own concerts and stored away from day one . Many posters (not all) that are being sold from other dealers got torn off walls or telephone poles and surely the serious collector knows the value. I'm not sure if there is such a prolific collection being sold under one roof and surely many of these are one of a kind.

There's also photography from these concerts as well as the recordings , but that doesn't mean you can't get a great photo of Mic Jagger somewhere else.

Hard to say what the value of having a poster or photo from a particular concert and a particular band that means something to an individual.

I happen to have bought a whole bunch of Grateful Dead posters in the mid-1970s. It seems that they are all originals, based on how long I've had them and the markings. At the time, they were being sold for short money because the Dead were not that popular and these things were just taking up space. Some are in perfect condition, others have things like thumbtack holes and mild edge damage. Even at a discount from what Wolfgang is listing for prices, I could be sitting on a ton of money!!!

    Anyone looking to buy???

    emoto,

If you are serious about selling them contact my friend Deb Zakarin at info@itsonlyrocknroll.com. You can consign them to their next auction. Or if you prefer I can have them get in touch with you.

I bought a sheet of these really tiny posters at a Dead concert once. They must have been collectable because people paid money for just a piece of it.

Could it have been an original large press sheet 24x26 or 23x35 of cards for that particular show

I think he was indicating that it was printed on rather absorbent paper, if you know what I mean...
