How much should the 1200RT smell?

I park my pride and joy in the garage. There is about a 4' rise up the driveway. I ride up into the garage and shut it off. I'll smell semi burned fuel for a few hours. I haven't noticed any visual fuel leaks and nothing reaches the ground. It has had it's 600 mile service and the dealer didn't mention anything. I just figured it was rich.

    Is this normal?

I don't know but I get a really strong smell out of my K12S cat-muffler after parking in the garage.
My other bike is a BMW.

Mine doesn't smell at all, but when it was new, it made some clutch smells for a while. It did smell like it was burnt a bit. My GS did the same thing, but they both have stopped making any kind of funk in the garage.

I wonder if it has to do with gunning it up the slope then chopping the throttle quickly?Do you turn it off right away?
Maybe let it idle for 20 seconds or so.???

on my RT I get burned rubber smell sometimes, when I've been revving it a bit on a ride.

I think mine is the alternator belt.

Not sure what a burned fuel smell would smell like?

I turn it off right away. I have always figured it was from riding up the slope. I might try a little idle next time.

i get a slight exhaust smell in the shed after 24 hours, but its tiny and very well sealed, about 8x6' so i figure its just related to my removing the evaporative cannister..............

I smell the burnt rubber too, but I think it's from my foot resting on the exhaust!

Well I finally did what I should have done months ago. I took it back to Cycle Specialties. They were more than accomodating and have determined the fuel pump has a leak. They should be swapping the pump out early next week. I'm actually glad they found something. The smell was the only thing I disliked about the RT.

    1200 RT smell

Really? The fuel pump isn't in the gas tank? Or did they mean in the pressurized fuel line coming out of the pump? I have one of the older machines and am thinking of looking at the new 1200 RT---Good Idea? --or not?

I thought he said the fuel pump. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure now. He pointed to it and was definitely outside the tank. I'd never seen the RT without the tupperware before so I'm not sure what I was looking at. Whatever it was, it had fuel plumbing coming out of it.
I asked the mechanic if he had seen the problem before. He said he had but not on the RT. I never asked him where he had seen it.

I think he said, fuel smell, what about the quick connects, or pressure in the fuel tank venting...this should be checked out by the dealer... eh.

They have it now. They saw fuel coming from (what I thought they said) the fuel pump. They were busy so I just left it there. I told them to take their time because I won't be riding this week anyway.

I've had this smell for quite some time. I have never seen any gas on floor so I just thought it was a rich bike. The other day I flipped the key to play the radio. I immediately started smelling gas. I assume the key on position powers up the fuel pump to pressurize the system. This is when I decided to take it to the dealer.

I'll post when it's returned from the dealer. That will hopefully be tomorrow or Wednesday.
