hello to all and thank you for letting me become a member. my wife and i are rally virgins so this vermont rally will be our first. we are both in our early fifties which seems to be the average age for a bmw owner. i want to start off by saying all those bands sound really great and heaven knows i saw half of those backed out of my gord so i would be seeing them for the first time all over again. so i'm throwing in my suggestion i'm bending the curve i say.....the beastie boys....i'm not kidding!! come on we're riding great modern machines, hi tech german stuff. lets not let our music stop two or three decades ago.i hope i haven't offended anyone i sure don't want to end up in the dog house like that guy with the veterans ride. see you in vermont.

Ya' know Garry, we can make those performances feel just like those first shows back way long ago.... Just camp too near some of the interesting campsites in the LOUD camping zone and watchout for the "way-back machine"! Heck, at our stages in life, we won't remember much anyhow so we will can have several more "first times" again!

Fixin to head down to Beale Street in Memphis Tn. and listen to some real American music, Delta Blues. The legendary Leo Goff will be performing with some of his buddies at the Kings Palace on the patio. No cover charge. Can't wait to sit back and drink a cold one. I'm going to ride my KLR over the big Muddy to the jam session. Wish yall could all join me. Spring time and the livin is easy.

    Memphis Music

I here ya Jerry. Memphis gets alot of bad press and some well deserved. But one neat feature of living in this area is the music. It's really a music mecca. The amount of music that has come from this area is beyond belief. Elvis,Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Ike and Tina Turner, B.B. King, W.C. Handy; the list is endless, of those that got their real commercial start right here in Memphis at Sun Records. Country, RocknRoll, Soul, Blues, Gospel, all have deep roots here. I get jealous when I here about riders, who live close to the Rockies, the Blue Ridge, Catskills, etc. and the neat places they have to ride. The Arkansas Ozarks are 3 hours away, but Memphis music is 15 minutes away. I mentioned Leo Goff, you have seen him in the MOA ads. He is a great Blues bass player and usually plays 2 or 3 times a week around Memphis, He's played with all the best. Yea, I hope we have a good band at the Rally, but if we don't, I still got Memphis. I'm off to the Millington Winery, just N. of Memphis, for some Blues out on the patio and a bottle of wine.

Jerry, I forgot to mention I had a great little ride over to Beale St. on the KLR. Mine's a '90 model, and it's a great bike. I'm riding it over to the winery. If U ever get a chance to be in the area, let me know and maybe I can help U hear some of that Music. Barry.

barryg, I'm about two hours from the Blue Ridge but need I tell you about the ominous "Law of Diminishing Returns" with one day riding. I find myself spending more and more time in Asheville NC (which is right on the Blue Ridge) listening to the great variety of bands they have there.

Thanks for the offer barryg, who knows maybe someday. Shortly we'll be heading back to Mich. to our little "rust belt" town so don't feel too bad in Memphis.

barryg, Go to WNCW.org, click on "Events", then "Live Music" then "see all".
The bands vary so it's hard to pick one spot.

    Band for the rally

We could have a reunion of the bands who played for us at the '89 York Nat. The La De Dahs, Sister Golden Hair, Bell and Shore with their famous big hit "I've Been Drunk Ever Since My Wife Went Punk", and our own Hi Bice and the Bice Squad. I do remember the Bice Squad, good job guys.

I really thought the band that played before George Thorogood was terrific. I can not remember their name but thought they kicked ass. I vote for blues , or country also. You have to mix it up a bit but hey wht the heck do I know..
