my "new" 2002 R1150RT...new to me, anyway!
I haven't had a ride in MANY years. Thanks to the gas prices, it was time to get another bike.
Now that I think about it...THANKS economy!![]()

Ok, I'm new to the motorcycle life and finally, at the age of 60 in January, got my first bike, a 2000 R1100RT, and after joining BMW MOA and pouring over all of the forum topics, it's time to ask the question. This oilhead/airhead thing must be related to the type of engine, right?
Thanks,
David
David, welcome! You're right:
- airhead: 'classic' boxer with 2 valves per cylinder, -1994 or something
- oilhead: oil+air cooled boxers with fuel injection and 4 valves/cylinder (like yours), 1993-2004
- hexhead: '2nd generation' oilheads with the more hexagonal cylinder heads, 2004-
So this is the right place to put a picture of your new ride!![]()

Thanks, thought it was something like that.
Here's my "new ride". I took the picture on my first long ride, 160 miles, through the Salt River Canyon on what is referred to as the Apache Trail. The lake is Canyon Lake.
Another 1100RT - excellent !!!
Welcome to the clan!
Even though my Opal Blue color is a bit more aerodynamic, I have to admit that the Graphite is very handsome (Wanna swap tupperware?)
I'm betting that it won't be long before you consider 160 miles to be just a short jaunt.

Thanks for the offer but I really like the black!! There just isn't anything like waxing it and then sitting in a chair looking at it enjoying my weekend cigar.
I'm planning weekend trips in AZ through the White Mountains so 160 miles will start to seem short.
My wife has taken one ride with me and now she's ordered her own full face helmut.
Great fun ahead!!
The red '97 F650 was/is my first bike. What a fun first bike! We've been through a lot together.
The bike I lusted after ever since I started riding is now my '98 R1200C. This photo taken a week or two after I brought her home mostly stock.
This is my "new and improved" R1200C about a year later taken in St. George, Utah.
More chrome, floorboards (yeah, I scrape 'em), passenger seat, luggage rack, 1150 throttlebodies and cams, and an awesome Stainetune Exhaust. As a matter fact, they may be the very same Stainetune Exhaust on brrider's bike from his post (#592 of this thread) a couple of pages back since I bought them from him. What a guy!
Updated picture. Beats the messy garage picture.
