    Recommended Tire Pressures - R1150GS

I'm sure this has been asked before, but what kind of pressures are you guys running for normal touring duty? I'm running Metzeler Tourances, and usually keep them at 36 rear and 33 front (cold) with luggage. I weigh 165.

Are these pressures reasonable? I've heard of guys running in excess of 42 psi rear, and this seems pretty high to me.

    Thanks,

Those were the pressures that I was running until recently. I was getting severe scrubbing and the dealer recommended the use of tire wall pressures to handle better and to avoid scrubbing. I was getting about 3500 miles on a set and now I am at 4K and still no sign of scrubbing or real wear and the slow speed wobble has gone away that is typical on D.S. tires. In the winter I put the TKC80's back on and run lower pressures for traction of course.

I run a pretty heavy bike (I think) with Jesse Bags and such, but I have had good tire milage and wear running at or near max pressures. (34-36F/40-42R) on both Metzlars and Michelins. No cupping, or loss of traction right out to the chicken-strips.

I got 18K out of the Metzlars (Tourance), and will get close to 15K out of the Anakees.

Off Road I'll drop the front down to 15-20psi and the run the rear between 18-25. Don't forget to up the air when you're back to the road, heat will kill a bike tire fast.

Hope that helps, I'd personally always run bike tires near max, they're supposed to be round

    And get similar results....

42/36 is my standard cold tire pressure with Tourances

    hehehehe...it is true I explode rear tires....lol.

The day when I had the rear tire explode was the last day that I ran at factory pressures too. While I don't believe that the factory pressures were reponsible for the damage, I do believe that they probably exacerbated a situation in the way of being low enough with load to generate the additional heat at speed. Single I was solo with only moderate weight in the cases I was running 36F 40R and since then I have been at 40F 45R with load and I will use 38F 42R w/o load from now on I think.

Here is a result of taking my word for it....lol:
