My new 2014 GTL has the Hill Start Control option. I didn't order it with this, however "BMW messed up" and included it at no additional cost on some number of 2014 bikes. Cool. Something for nothing. I can dig that.
Well it is a nice feature, when it engages.
I am wondering if anyone else has it and if it engages easily for you. Even my dealer had trouble getting it to engage. What I would appreciate is clear technical documentation from BMW as to exactly how it is supposed to work. What my dealer said is I have to ride it a bit to have the self-checks complete. That seems to take only tens of feet or so. The two flashing indicators go out. Then come to a full stop. The side stand must be up. Then release the hand break. The rear break may or may not be pressed at that point. It can be in first or neutral. Then engage the hand break very hard. When I perform these precise steps the slight click is felt in the break handle and the "H" indicator comes on, only about one in ten tries.
Clearly some sensor isn't firing that is necessary in the programming. Wish I knew what the code is looking for exactly.
I've experimented with various alteration, like slightly rolling for and aft, etc. Still appears random, working only about one in ten tries.
That isn't good enough to be actually useful. I can hold the front break on a hill like I have done for 30 years on previous bikes. I do feel this function will be useful if it worked consistently.
Any suggestions or your experience with HSC is greatly appreciated.
