    Rally Seminars

In retrospect I should have scheduled my time better to attend more seminars, because the three seminars I attended were all excellent. I learned a great deal at: The Vintage Bike seminar, Rob, Dave, and Greg's New MOA Website seminar, and Dave Hough's Sidecar (THE BEST and I don't even have one) seminar were all great! Thanks to the organizers and presenters! What did others think?

    Good seminars.

Too bad my rally book found it's way under my thermo rest so I went to the wrong seminar building and missed out the beginning of the Riding with Kids, and I wanted to get to the sidecar one, but again I was wonder aimlessly by that time, looking over the scenary.

    Thank you to the presenters.

I enjoyed the seminars I attended, but DANG IT, I couldn't attend everything I wanted to. Some were scheduled before I arrived, or conflicted with other seminars, or I was volunteering in the Beer Garden.

Personally, I was glad that the nearby roads were not a big draw for me, or else I would have had an even tougher time deciding what to see, and what to skip.

There are a couple of presenters that I plan to contact for information, but is there an organized effort to collect the presented information for each seminar and "publish" it on the web site? Just a copy of the presenters' outline notes and any handouts or overheads, or list of sources would be interesting.

    Dang

I am bummed I missed both of Dave's Coffees. I have learned that there are downsides to being a rally chair and deciding to run in the 8K run.

I do thank all the people who held the seminars and thanks for moving the time Dave.

I went to Dave's coffee. Arrived at 5 minutes before the scheduled 9:00 starting time. It appeared that he was already into full swing and the bleachers were filled with spectaters and the donuts nearly gone??
I don't like to wander in late to stuff like that so I just wandered off.
    Maybe next time.

Thumbs up Seminars and missed seminars

The seminars I attended were full of usefull information; more than I could
absorb. So I would love to be able to buy the notes or audio recordings.

I made the biggest mistake of all- I attended none. I did intend to attend the Writers Wanted one, but got distracted that day and then remembered about an hour after it was over. Phooey. Anybody who attended that one care to share the gist of it with me?

Write an article, submit it. Ask Editor if it is going to be used. Do not put it up on the web or submit it to other people until ON gets first publication.

    seminar reviews

Great idea! The Rally Wrap-up issue is the October BMW ON. Submissions must be to Sandy Cohen no later than August 10th.

I'd recommend that you send a copy of your article to the seminar presenter, as a courtesy. I can help you get that information if you would like it.

    Coh03, Craig Cleasby,

I am remiss in not thanking you and all the other Yankee coffeemakers for your efforts. It was a tremendous help having the coffee delivered to the seminar area. And believe me, I know how much work it is to make pots and pots of coffee.

We should also thank Whitehorse Press for sponsoring the Friday "coffee with Dave", and Ayres Adventures for sponsoring the Saturday "coffee..." What sponsoring means is forking over $100 per "coffee..." so I can buy pastries and bananas. For the past several years I've included fresh fruit (for those who need to stay away from sugar) but this year I was surprised how 10 lbs or so of bananas disappeared so quickly on Friday. So, for Saturday I bought about 20 lbs. Hey, they were on sale at 19c/lb.

And, I need to thank John Edstrom for loaning me his Durango for the rally, while he drove around on his KLT/trike. Both Thursday and Friday nights the Durango served as a catering truck to deliver the goods the next morning. I got to know the Lima Sams Club very well.

For those who intended to make seminars but didn't get there, remember that an international rally is like a 3-ring circus. You just can't do it all during one rally. That's why there's another rally next year. I usually download the rally program before leaving home, and note the ones I want to get to--especially those I'm hosting. So, next year you might spend a few minutes looking at the listed events, and do a little doodling with a highlighter.

For anyone who missed seminars because they were working the rally, I say you did just fine. You get out of a rally in proportion to what you put into it. I tried to fit in some gate duty or something myself, but my events plus the various dinners didn't leave enough time.

I heard comments that there were too many seminars put on by businesses with blatant commercial interests. I have no problem with that, since everyone gets to pick and choose. But my answer to anyone who feels there should be more "non-commercial" seminars, is to get busy this winter and dream up the best seminar you could wish for--and then make it happen. All you have to do is download the seminar request form from the seminar boss, and submit a proposed agenda and time alternatives. OK, there's a bit of a pecking order based on past performance, but you have to start somewhere.
