    That was my point

People who hold certain religious or political beliefs find strength in their numbers and then think if someone remains quiet as an act of courtesy, everything is OK. Finally, people who do not share those sets of beliefs are beginning to speak up and is making the "clique" feel uncomfortable. If I go into the home of a person with deeply held religious beliefs, I will observe their customs out of respect. If they come to my house, I expect them to respect that I do not share their beliefs. Sometimes, like in this discussion, it does not work out that way.

Never heard of the Ruritan Club (about same membership size as MOA), did a Google and learned something today.

The first I ever heard of them was at the Morganton, NC rally. Seems to be a variation on the theme of the Kiwanis and Rotary. However, they seem to more community active sponsoring Scouting and 4-H clubs. That should be a good thing.

    It's been a while since I've posted.

After reading this thread, I'm giving myself another month off.
I used to post here, but now I don't.

The Ruritan Clubs are generally in small communities and appeal more to farmers, carpenters, plumbers, factory workers and other people who work with their hands. They work hard to make their small communities better by helping young people, by helping people who have had disasters (house fires, floods, etc) and improving the community. The Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs seek out the professional and business people of larger communities. I joined both because I have been both. I had grease under my fingernails for about a dozen years until I finally got my degree. I only got a college degree only because I broke my back and couldn't continue doing mechanical and body work.
