The TMAT starts at the Canadian Border a few miles into Canada.
I didn't bring my passport so I enjoyed Boundary Water Nation Park and International Falls

The TMAT is over 1200 miles long and stretches across Minnesota.
The ride report is the Eastern TMAT Route

The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW or BWCA),
is a 1,090,000-acre wilderness area within the Superior National Forest in northeastern Minnesota.
The BWCAW is famous as a destination for both canoeing and fishing on its many lakes
and is the most visited wilderness in the United States.

The BWCAW is located on the U.S./Canadian border in the Arrowhead Region of Minnesota.
Along with Voyageurs National Park to the west
and the Canadian Quetico and La Verendrye Provincial Parks to the north,
they make up a large area of contiguous wilderness lakes and forests
    called the "Quetico-Superior country",
    or simply the Boundary Waters.
Lake Superior lies to the east of the Boundary Waters.

The continental divide between the Great Lakes and Hudson Bay watersheds
runs through the east side of the BWCAW,

    Regions

The BWCAW is typically split up into a eastern and western regions.

The eastern region includes the Gunflint Trail,
a historic road which runs near the Canadian border from Lake Superior at Grand Marais
to its terminus in the heart of the wilderness some 55 miles inland, near Saganaga, Seagull and other entry points.

Other entry points in this region are accessed via the Sawbill Trail,
a 30 mile road from Lake Superior at Tofte and which terminates at Sawbill Lake.

The western region is primarily accessed through the town of Ely.
Entry points are scattered all over the area, including along the Fernberg Road, which runs east from Ely for approximately 20 miles before terminating at the Lake One entry point.

The Echo Trail provides access to entry points northwest of Ely, and Highway 1 runs toward Lake Superior and provides access to other areas of the wilderness.

    Town Road 161
    South of International Falls

    Warning:
I wouldn't try Town Road 161 by yourself in muddy season

    Great Photos

Thanks for the wonderful pictures and riding ideas. I must try at least part of this ride when attending the MOA Rally.

I like your GS, had a 1983 R80GS and loved it. Regretfully it was sold 12 years later for a R1100RT. Enjoyed the RT but will always have fond memories of my first GS

We shall see a about writing an article. Feel free to use my photos to promote the Rally. The route is easy for a large dual sport bike with K60 Scout or TKC80 tires. Just skip Town Road 161 near International Falls.
