    Route Request

Annie and I are in Helena, MT and plan on visiting a friend in Bay Center, WA. We are toying with riding our bikes. We are equipped and experienced in cold weather riding but want to reduce our chances of hitting snow and ice. Any route suggestions that reduce the odds of us hitting frozen water?

Our tentative plan is I90 West to I82 South to I5 North to vicinity Chehalis then west to Bay Center.

    Suggestions please.

Your route sounds, to me, like the best choice this time of year. You might consider heading west at Kelso and follow the Columbia west, then north to Bay Center. Be safe.

Just to be sure you should come see us in Texas, head west to the California Central Valley and go north up the coast through Oregon to Washington.

You'd better check the NWS reports for locations along your route. There's a a weather advisory issued for hazardous conditions in eastern Washington and Oregon this weekend. Are you taking I-82 down to I-84 and going through the Gorge?

the storm anticipated to occur this weekend is expected to be "breezy". In the gorge that can make for an interesting ride. It can catch you unawares coming around a ridge, heeled over and push you upright. this occured to me around Wishram with significant pucker factor. It is still pretty early for significant snow at pass elevations, so enjoy the ride but check the weather.

Yup, it is not looking like a wise decision to make this a ride. We rode the gorge this past summer and it was a bit unpleasent at times. Crossing a long narrow grated bridge with a 30 MPH cross wind got our attention.

    Thanks everone.
