    K75 Fuel Pump

I bought a "barn find" '95 k75 that hasn't run in several years. I had the inside of the tank cleaned and sealed, and I replaced the fuel pump and filter. I tried to start it this afternoon, and the fuel pump turns on, and stays on, as soon as I turn the ignition key to on. I believe it should turn on when the starter button is pushed. What could be causing this?

    Incorrect wiring?
    Bad FI computer?
A stuck starter solenoid caused by trying to start it with a low battery? Does your starter also try to turn before you hit the button?

No, the starter does not turn until the starter button is pushed.

Stuck (or jumpered) fuel pump relay? Have you been in the relay box yet?

I'd say the relay box is your next stop, then.

Also, that under-tank connector is notoriously fickle and prone to losing contact. Check the wiring to the tank carefully. Someone may have inserted power into the harness (bike) side of that connector to jury-rig around some other problem. They may have also done some work to the part of the wiring emerging from the tank, but that by itself wouldn't cause the pump to come on with the ignition.

    Good call James.

The pump relay could have stuck when either the pump fried or when it was trying to run a fried pump with a low battery.

A jumpered pump wiring by a previous owner trying to work around a problem is also a good possibility.
