I just purchased an R1200C with 36k on the clock. The previous owner had final drive leakage problem and had the final drive rebuilt about 500 miles ago. I have a copy of all the work done. Once I got the bike home I thought I would do a tune up and fluid flush/change. When I drained the final drive gear oil I saw a lot of metal filings in the oil. My question is, is this common on a new final drive rebuilt? I didn?t know if there is an initial ?break-in? of the final drive and initial metal filings are common and you change the oil after a few hundred miles or, if the shop did an incompetent job rebuilding final drive. I have changed the oil and will drive it for a few hundred miles and check it again. Has anyone else who had a final drive rebuilt experienced this?
