I just can't stand these Harley riders. What a crop of posers. Buy a Harley and BE SOMEBODY. Jeeze!..... I would rant on, but it would require that I resort to profanity.

Speaking of a twist of the wrist.
Did anyone else catch that episode on ÔÇ£PinksÔÇØ (another lousy reality show). It caught my attention because it pitted an older Suzuki against a shiny new example of HDÔÇÖs V-Rod.
To make the long story short, and without commercials, the Suzuki owner went home with his buddyÔÇÖs V-Rod.

If he's smart, he sells the V-Rod, and updates his Suzuki.

Just to be correct STOCK Harleys don't come with loud pipes. While I personally have no interest in owning one, I know people who do that I would ride with anytime. We as motorcyclists and BMW riders who count ourselves as a holding to a ÔÇ£higherÔÇØ standard (if you will) need to be mindful of not letting ourselves get caught up in "stereotyping" by brand. When we do so we debase ourselves and become no different than those who would debase us for choosing to ride BMWÔÇÖs or claim we are ÔÇ£snobbishÔÇØ by that choice.Originally Posted by lorazepam

I see these threads all to often on this and other BMW boards and I think we are doing ourselves and our chosen brand a major disservice by such stereotypical statements.

Very well said, Rocketman. I find all too many Beemer riders a bit on the snooty side. It's too bad they miss out on the camaraderie of other groups because of their stereotypes.

Your point is valid. We shouldn't stereotype HD riders. I do ride past them all weekend every weekend - kind of frustrating when they are in the fast lane holding up a line of cars and you have to pass them on the right.
I rented a VROD for a weekend last year and it was totally stock - not loud at all. Yesterday I was on the slab on my RT with my 18 year old son as pillion and a fat, bearded biker on a VROD, wearing no protective gear, passed me going faster than it was safe to be going given the conditions and he was running - straight pipes - out of that beautiful, well engineered bike!
We're all brothers (and sisters) in motorcycling - I don't like anyone who rides like a knucklehead, and there are equal numbers of knucklehead squids on riceburners around here. On the same ride yesterday I saw an unmarked Arizona Highway Patrol car on US 60 just West of the Boyce Thompson Arboretum - he had a "hoon" pulled over - gentleman with gray hair (his helmet was off) full race leathers on an R1 - looked like they were invovled in a negotiation as to weather the number on the ticket was going to be "100", "120", or "150". A minute later I politely tapped my helmet, warning an HD rider coming in the opposite direction that there was traffic enforcement activity ahead.

As a current owner of both HDs and BMWs I would like to express IMHO.
1st. As a HD owner ('01 RoadKing) I thought that I would never steep so low to own a BMW, I now currently own two of them. '72 R60/5 and '04 1150GS and I am giving the R12RT a lot of considerations.
2nd. If you never have owned a HD, don't knock'em till you tried tried'em and viseversa.
3rd. Diversity make the world go round and it opens up a whole new element for the enthuseist. (not brand loyal, I just love to ride....Period.)
4th. (Probably the most significant) The wife as a non driver, perfers to ride on the back of the HD....![]()
5th. I wear textile and leather clothing. Depends on the ride. Both styles with padding and Kevlar protection ......ATGATT
Summary......I take the beemer for a screamer ride (Solo),....and I take my queen (wife) for a ride with the King (HD)![]()

Let's see now...in the latest edition of CycleTrader we have the following:
1. 1995 BMW r1100rs/<10,000 miles....$5995.00 OBO
2. 1995 H-D 1200 Custom/<10,000 miles....$8500.00
Trust me on this...should I ever need to sell a motorcycle....it will NOT be the 1977 Harley-Davidson Sportster XLCH.

I've found that many social groups tend to be a bit snooty to anyone not in that group, especially to competing groups. It's human nature, and wrapped up in the desire to belong to something that is better than what the Jones' belong to. When the Jones' are not a clear cut family or group, we make one. We are the HD riders Jones', they are ours. Same thing with the ricers...err.. zip-splats.. umm.. squids.. uhh.. those 'other' bikers.
Having ridden them all, my opinion is expressed below.
Personally, I don't give a damn what you ride, what you rode before, or how many wheels it has. You and I both have our favorites, let's fire 'em up, and RIDE!!

Friend of mine this weekend started in on the Harley vs BMW chant.. I let him run for about 5 mins, then asked him if he knew where the keys were to his harley, or if it was a trophy he just wanted to talk about. He looked at me a bit funny, then pulled them out of his pocket. I said 'good, less talk, more riding', and off we went.

yeah, whats up with that, i've never ridden a harley, but anytime a motorcycle is holding up traffic i become frustrated, unless its a vespa or something. i mean, i know not everyone is out there to ride fast, but i just cant immagine being able to keep my bike at or below the speed limit all the time.............Originally Posted by BobFV1
