New Zealand North Island: Suggestions Wanted

Anybody have suggestions on good roads, cafes and good coffee stops on the North Is . Have been on/in some, but I have found that you will miss a lot if you dont ask or listen to the locals or folks that have been there.

Fantastic stuff in the North Island , but the South Island is where the scenery is spectacular. If you are going to NZ dont miss the South Island ( in spring or summer on a bike).

Paul, you are exactly right. If you we're only able to visit one of the Islands, the South Is. should be the one to see first, for the reasons you stated. Since I live in the mid Atlantic Eastern U.S. I think some of the scenery on the South Is. is so spectacular that you can hear it. I have poked around the South Is. quite a bit and and just now starting to venture up to the North Is. for new roads, street racing, etc., etc. Cheers, Charlie
