1992 R100R clock install

I picked up an OEM clock with housing and am looking for pictures of how it is installed. BMW parts manual shows it mounted to an auxiliary bar which appear to be mounted to the handlebar. Is this the case? Does anyone have a bike with this accessory installed? Thx.

Yep, you are correct. The 92 R100R does not come with additional gauges. You basically have a few options now.... you could buy the OEM bar to provides mounting places for 2 additional gauges, you could build your own, you could add an "S" fairing, which has a dash and the dash has room for 2 additional gauges or you could sell the whole set up. Interestingly, my RS fairing used to have a clock and I removed it. It is much better not knowing what time it is so that you can concentrate and focus on the ride. When you are riding everything else should wait. You are doing the most important thing....riding

I purchased a Parabellum fairing that looks like the "S" fairing. It is held in place with a couple of brackets and I used 90 degree additional brackets as attachment points for the clock and voltmeter.

My experience was the same with a thermometer...I spent way too much time looking at the readout, and ended up removing it. OTOH, my good riding buddy (40+ years in the saddle, an MSF instructor, etc.) often listens to music. YMMV.

I was able to mount the clock on the OEM windshield bracket, there are holes on either side keeping just adobe the signal lights. Now wiring is the next challenge- the clock has 3 wires coming from it, red/brown/grey, I suspect a positive, negative for power and the third wire for lighting. I found a wire harness under my tank cut from a prior installation, one red and one black wire.

Any thoughts on connecting these wires? Red to red makes sense, then brown and grey to ????? Thx in advance. Charlie

I think you'll find that red is +12VDC to power the clock, Brown is always ground on BMW bikes and the grey wire with black stripe is switched power for the light bulb in your clock. I'm just figuring out the same thing for my R80G/S here and that's what it looks like on my schematic. Yours is likely identical.

Thanks. I tested the red and found voltage on it, albeit very minimal. Now on to figure the low voltage issue out!
