That's an awesome story. I can see that Mustang streaking over the airfield in my mind's eye.

I was stationed in Colorado Springs in the Air Force and was earning my pilot ratings in the Air Force flying club at Peterson Field. This was in 1965 or 66 when the Air Force Academy was having a reunion of fighter aces. Bob Hoover was there with a Mustang and put on an air show for the Aces who were all in a grand stand set up for the occasion. He probably was still a test pilot for North American back then. Anyhow, there is nothing like the sound of that Mustang and if watching Hoover fly one doesn't make anyone want to be a pilot nothing will.
