For front shock replacement on this bike, does the fuel tank have to be removed or can it simply be slid back some without having to disconnect the fuel hoses, etc.? Thanks

If memory serves correctly you only need to slide it back but not remove it completely. You should be able to do it without disconnecting anything.

It can be done that way but a lot easier with the tank just out of the way.
Good time to add quick fuel disconnects while you are at it and make tank removal much easier on that bike.
