    Helmet Lock On a 2002 R1150RT?

Yesterday I jumped into the world of RTs with my purchase of a friends 2002 R1150RT. While reading through the Rider's Manual to learn about the hidden secrets in all that bodywork, I came across a picture of the bike with a line leading from the right side of the passenger seat to a notation for "Helmet Holder" (Page 5, item #16). I looked at my bike and did not see anything that I recognized as something to hold a helmet.
Am I missing something, is the bike missing something, or was this manual written on April Fools Day?

Its a funny looped looking device that is bolted to the frame. I never used mine, and it is removeable by removing one bolt. Look closely again...

Is that the little loop on each side that I see when I REMOVE the rear seat? I was looking on the outside!
Thanks for the help, I would not have known what those things were.

Those helmet loops are not very useful if you have a tent strapped across the back seat.

    Question

do the 1100 RT's have one??

I've recently started parking more often on the side stand, and hanging my hat on the right passenger footpeg, thinking that most people just kinda physically shy away from bikes to begin with.

Yes, remove the rear seat. Two U shaped hooks or loops. The helmet lock on my K is much easier to access, on the outside of the bike. With the R1100RT, I usually just take a coiled bike lock and attach it to the rear grab handles.

    Helmet Lock

This is a thread I put some pixs on a few years back. If you have the side cases on an extension is needed.

    Thanks for the ideas.
I think that I will go back to my old "gun lock" system that I used years ago on my Kawasaki Concours. It is a padlock with a plastic coated foot long cable that can go through the helmet and through the luggage rack.
    Thanks again for the help.

I formed a strip of stainless to allow the supplied hook to work with my helmet.

Interesting to note that the solutions all involve more hardware to bind the helmet to the bike. Seems to make the BMW provided "helmet lock" redundant!

They certainly aren't the first bike maker to use a hoop under a seat lock for a solution, that's for sure.

Since BMW helmets (Schuberth) have no D rings I'd love to know just what sort of helmet the designers were using when they came up with this idea.

You can also try Helmet Guardian from A&S BMW. Should work with Schuberth too.
