    Fiberglass top case repaint...

When I picked up my /6 from the PO, it came with a fiberglass top case. I believe it's a Krauser, but not sure. It needs a repaint. Has anyone reprinted one and how did it turn out?

    Thanks in advance!

Fiberglass?? If you find it to be plastic, use Krylon Fusion. Works great for plastic side cases.

I would be surprised to learn that Krauser products use fiberglass. If you know it to be fiberglass that is what counts, what brand case it is isn't important.

Fiberglass can be painted with almost any type of paint including latex house paint. But if you want an "automotive" finish, you'll need to use an automotive grade paint with proper substrate preparation (filler (if needed), primer, surfacer)) taken out to at least 400grit. It's more about surface preparation than it is about the paint. You can't hide a poor surface with any paint.

Most fiberglass parts have a gelcoat outer surface. More often than not this is some color; it can be a "primer" as well. Either way the gelcoat is only about 1/32-1/16" thick and if you're not careful it can be sanded through (revealing the glass fibers). Not a big deal structurally, but the exposed fiber ends act as miniscule wicks and cause what are known as "fish eyes". Most guys in the business know all this and how to deal with it. I'm just letting you know ahead.
