    Motorcycle Cannonball 2012

This start tomorrow, amazing to see I would think.
Of course when they ride through Michigan I be helping out at Bike for Babies March of Dimes event. Seems like I am always missing something I would want to see.

Kind of funny they are taking a modern ferry across Lake Michigan.

I hadn't paid attention to the scoring system up to now. The latest report gave a brief rundown and color commentary. Very interesting!

    from Bill Wood's report:

At this point, the smallest Cannonball class is still led by Darryl Richman, who has completed a perfect 1,044 miles on his 1928 BMW. But everyone is wondering how these smaller machines will handle the challenges ahead, particularly the high passes in the Rocky Mountains.

For now, though, Richman holds onto the overall lead in the Cannonball standings, thanks to a scoring system that awards ties first to the rider in the lowest class, then to the rider on the oldest motorcycle and finally, if a tie still exists, to the oldest rider.

I'm going to have to root for a Harley again this time. Joe Gardela's 1914 class 2 Harley. I've known Joe for about 30 years. I've watched Joe ride off into a snow storm on one of his old Harley's more than once in Michigan.

Just read on the Yahoo /2 list that Craig Vechorik stepped up and supported Darryl big time! Darryl's been having problems with leaking and/or blowing head gaskets. Darryl tried two head gaskets and things seem to have stabilized. But in the meantime, Craig took heads off his own R52 and overnighted them to Darryl for his use. Darryl's going to have a down day in Sturgis where he'll do a lot of service. They'll decide to continue with the two gaskets or switch to Vech's loaner heads. But, man, Vech really did a solid on this one. Amazing support from him for the vintage community!!!
