    Question 1997 r1100rt

I just got bought this bike. I am so excited! I am only 5'2" and have sat on this model so I know I am going to have the seat cut down. I may resort to adding some extra sole height to my riding boots. Anybody have any other ideas that are less pricey than replacing the shocks? I don't want to spend another grand in order to ride my new Fury

+1 on the extra sole but be careful to not add too much as I did. Too much sole made the shifting difficult; had to have the sole reduced.

You may be 5'2" but what is your inseam? Mine is 28" and with the Russell seat height, I'm always careful coming to a stop. My 28" inseam, however, is fine with the stock seat in the middle position. The stock in the lowest position is just too low for a 28" inseam.

    Enjoy the new ride!

    Hi RedfuryGal..

Great bike, but wrong forum. An R1100anything is an "oilhead".. I'll move your post to the correct forum.

There are boots made (seems to me Daytona, but my memory is often faulty) made which can lift you about 1", and it's not at all obvious looking at the boots (I think they do it by magic.)

A cutdown seat may not be a good answer since that usually means an even less comfortable seat (and BMW is not renouned for making comfortable seats..) You might look to the aftermarket and see who makes a lowered seat for your bike. Probably one of the larger aftermarket seat makers like Sargent might have just what you need.

OK, gonna drag this over to Oilheads.. hang on!

    Hi Red,

Same bike here, but mine has the slightly taller optional comfort seat. ("Comfort" being a relative term, applicable only in comparison to the stock saddle.) I don't have any problem with the seat height myself, but I have heard talk of cutting down or removing the rubber stops on the bottom of the seat. Probably doesn't do much for bumpy roads. For improving comfort without adding adding a lot of height, I use a sheepskin pad from Alaskaleather.com. Good luck with the new ride.

    Seat rubbers

You may want to try to cut down the rear seat rubbers 1/2 inch and file the adjustable arm rubbers till flat. That will lower the seat.

Sadly, shocks may very well be your best bet.

Shocks from Works Performance will get you close. Talk to Tom. He knows his stuff and his shocks are a good bit less than Wilbers or Ohlins.

I have the twin to your bike (with Works shocks front and rear) and love it. Fury is a very apropos name for these machines.
