1982 R100RT Signal Lights Stopped Functioning

    Good day!
I am not sure where in the H#%l summer went but I got my1982 R100RT out of storage, put some fresh gas in it and she lit up with a soft pure with a steady idle. Checked everything, but my signal lights have gone south and I know this sounds stupid but I have no idea where to find the flasher unit because I think it may have given up the ghost! Funny it was working last fall and now nothing. Humm!
What else should I be searching for, as I really wanto to put some miles on it before the white stuff is upon us.

Check and clean all the ground connections. I had similar problems with my former 90S and that was what solved it.

Check the fuses in the head light bucket. I just lost my turn signals on my 81 and that was the reason.

Thank you for the response. Got brave enough to go inside the head light bucket and I was shocked in that for a 1982 machine, the internals looked brand new. Found what I think was the flasher unit removed to see if any corrosion was setting in. Clean as a whistle. Did check the two fuses that were in the back of the bucket that is attached to the circuit board. Look fine.

That is my next step and I think I will start at the handle bar switch's as I know the BritIron hardware was always giving people grief.

    Thank you for your suggestion.

    Scottie,

Would you happen to know what the part # was of the flasher unit?

It is also possible to substitute a generic heavy duty flasher. I sent you a PM. If more data is needed, I'll post to the thread.

Maybe you checked already, but the last time my turn signals stopped working, I ended up cleaning the fuse and terminals and putting on some dielectric grease on the ends before inserting. Inside my headlight looked brand new as well but there could still be corrosion.

If its like my 91 RT there are two fuses under the seat, just forward of the battery. Just remove your took tray and look forward for the small knob. If you remove the cover, there are two fuses in there. I was wireing up my trailer lights when I blew a fuse, and had to go looking.

    It's not.

All electrics save for a couple relays are inside the headlight bucket until 1985 models.

My 89 has the fuses were you described, but the 82 were in the head light bucket. But do appreciate your suggestion.

Did you give the fuses a spin or check for corrosion between them and the holder.? If it's still opened up I would clean the fuse holders (battery ground disconnected first)

    Good morning to everyone,

First off, thank you to all of you for the helpful guidance and suggestions to resolve the no show winkers that don't work.

My buddy from down the block who is a retired automotive shop teacher and I dived into the head light bucket, which by the way looked so brand new that we stood and looked at each other in disbelieve that this is a 82 BMW R100RT. The relay when the signal light switch did some squawking when moved from left to right, we gently pulled on the bottom attachment wires as this machine has not been used in any great amounts of time for the past 5 - 6 years. Lo and behold the signal lights started to work. My buddy said its because it's been sitting with no use?

After dinner last night, swung my leg over the seat and went for a short ride. I had to remember to keep the rpm's up but what a sweet machine. Was going to sell the machine, but no way in he double tooth picks is this machine going anywhere but under my padding where the sun don't shine.

Again, thank you for all the suggestions. Have a good long weekend, as I plan to put some miles on the Black Prince (R100RT).

Mine started acting up while on a trip. Works sometimes. Sometimes will flash a few times then quit or have very fast flashes. Sometimes turn signals will flash but not indicator.

In meantime I am going to start cleaning grounds and connections.
