Questions about my two different 1975 R90/6

I have two 1975 R90/6. I am taking the best parts off of each bike and restoring one and probably part out or sell the other. Anyhow, the bike I am using as the base build has short and flat handlebars on it. Makes for a uncomfortable ride for me. So, I was in the process of taking the taller handlebars from the donor bike and putting them on the build bike. When I tried to install the taller handlebars, they won't work because the cables and wiring are too short.

Does it seem right that these two 1975 bikes would have totally different lengths of cables and wires? As an example, on the left handlebar, the wires coming from the headlight bucket and going to the left grip (turn signals, headlight switch, etc.) measure about 7 inches on the build bike that had the shorter handlebars and the same wire on the donor bike measures about 13 inches.

    Any ideas, comments or suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Chris

you don't want excess wire or cables dangling around, so on lower bars, shorter lengths would be spec'd. taller bars = more length needed, so yeah, it makes perfect sense that there would be differences.

    Check the specs.

I had to change several of my cables when I went from North American bars to European bars, different strokes.... Just move the cables along with the bars and replace the ones that need it.

That is it. You can see on the parts fiche that there are different part numbers for all the cables depending on whether you are using US or euro bars.

The throttle cables a and switch wires for the euro bars are shorter, the brake cable is the same, just routed different.

Cables and switches for the US bars are still available from BMW.
