    Fill out your profile

I keep running across this phrase in many of the threads. Why? Why don't people fill out their profile?

A member will go on a thread and post some problem that they have with their bike/equipment/state/club, etc. and the persons reading the post have no information to respond properly because the profile does not have the information about what they ride, where they live, etc.

    WHY?

What is really interesting is that many will respond to the "Fill out your profile.", with the information that is needed to answer their question; but STILL do not fill out their profile.

    WHY?

Well Jerry, I don't think it is more than some members don't know how to make the adjustments such as their avatar and signature line. It's really not hard. There is an announcement- User Control Panel (User CP) Explained that some miss but it's all there.
There are other occasions where a long time member has a problem and runs to the forum to ask a question about their broken bike. It's really kinda hard to stay up on the forum if your only on a couple of times a year.
If anyone on the forum needs help they can ask...lets all get together and help and if it's their post count is a bit on the low side- realize the possible inexperience and help them along. Gary

If you click on the users name, you will get a pop-up that allows you to see their profile. Jerry's seems quite informative.

Karen... point taken. I did not know that. I wonder how many others do.

His message seems to berate us for not posting this information without having to drill down to get it, so I was responding to that. I have been on many MC forums, and most post this information right out in the open. Makes for easier understanding. To me, the profile is what you can see from the posts... not what is behind the curtain.

Sorry if I got it wrong.

    .
Normally the info you see when you click on the persons name is called their Profile. The location of the person is pulled from the profile and placed on the left under the persons screen name.
The info at the bottom of the post is the signature.
The setup with the Profile is nice because this gives a place for the member to give a little history about themself if they want. All this info would be too much to have at the bottom of each post in the signature.
As a minimum, the info I like to see in the Profile is a persons first name, State, or country if not in the US, and then I like to see the current bike in the signature.

The way I feel about this forum is akin to the way I feel about my new car, a 2012 VW Passat TDI - I can drive it and utilize SOME of the features, but there are new ones that surprise me almost every day. The car came with a 375 page owner's manual. Perhaps the forum needs one!

Suspect in the case of the forum, I don't even have a clue about the depth of my ignorance. I hadn't a clue that clicking on the user name would do anything, so never tried it until tonight.

At the top of the page click on FAQ and then pick General Forum Usage.
You can find a lot of useful information there.

I exposed Baldy for setting "A/E" cookies on the members. Everyone thought he was running the site out of the goodness of his heart. I showed otherwise. The truth will get you banned. It all happened on the FREE WOODY thread. Search the site for the Free Woody thread or for "all posts by OldBMWMaster. It is rather comical.

The idiots kicked Chris Wood off while keeping non-riders in positions of "mod dom" on the site. A number of us took exception to their actions and got banned for life.

The "what they ride" part is most easily accomplished using "signature."

It's also requested in the "your details" but not displayed unless someone searches.
