    Spoilhead?

While riding to Sedalia we stopped for gan and a fella asked me how I liked my Spoilhead. Spoilhead? I asked? He said "yeah Spoilhead When my friends went from a airhead to a oilhead (Spoilhead) they never went back. Well I picked this bike up (96R1100RT) about a month ago. And the rally was the first trip I took it on. I love it! lots of power, comfortable, and nimble in the corners. So I guess I am spoiled!

Voni got hers in May of '93 and hasn't looked back since. She kept her R80ST for 15 years after that but seldom rode it. She sold it. She now has an R1100RS, an F800, and a K75.

I'm finally beginning to enjoy my r1100rt. Still working on seat issues, but it's growing on me. It's taking a while to get it set up for me and running well. I went through a tank of Seafoam, and I've just went through a tank of techron. It is now smoother and less hesitant. I'm going to run another bottle of techron through at my next fill up.

A whole bottle per tank is overkill. Just sayin...

    I thought so too.
But My bike said otherwise. It's ran better than ever on that stuff. The throttle and response is much smoother, and for some reason, it smokes less at startup now that I've burned through half the tank.

I can't recall the exact proportions but I seem to recall one large bottle does 4 tanks. Anyway, whatever turns yer crank!

One bottle is good for 20 gallons, So it was a little better than double the dose. The mixture in the tank now that I refilled at 1/2 tank is closer to the normal mixture.

You may want to change your oil after running the techron tank. Some of the carbon that is cleaned from the combustion chambers gets in the oil through blowby. Look in the window, I bet your oil is black.

    How much are you betting?

Thx for the tip. I just checked, the oil looks good. I had ran a tank of seafoam as well as has some seafoam in the crankcase before I had all the fluids changed a couple of hundred miles ago. So. all-in-all, the engine should be pretty clean in there. I did a high rpm run for a few miles the other day, hoping to burn some of the carbon out as well.

    1995

Last year of airheads in the US was 1995. Though BMW tried to kill them off in 1984. They were reintroduced in 89(?) or was it 87?

The twin-shock R100's were dropped at the end of '84, but the other airheads (R80) continued production in the new Monolever chassis ('85-on). In 1987 the R100's were reintroduced as '88 models in the Monolever chassis/K-bike forks & wheels. The last U.S. airhead model year was 1995; but the last airhead actually rolled off the line in Spandau in 1996.

That explains a lot. The missing 17 minutes of tape AND the missing R100s!

My first BMW was a 88 R100RS. after that I went to a 99 R1100RT. Then a couple of K-bikes. I've had my latest BMW, a 1991 R100RT about a month. The 91 doesn't have the horse power the 99 had, but is more comfortable for me to ride. I guess I'll always stay close to Airheads.
